My Scout Trooper Build

I will slowly be posting updates and questions concerning my Scout build. My first question is concerning the appropriate color to paint the snout greeble and temple bolts? It looks to me like a primer grey but I'm not sure.

Here's how mine knees look:

Just make sure you test fit so it's sized to your leg right and the outer facing rivet will be painted white for Lancer. I did a dork move and didn't size it before I installed it and had to remove it and do it over again.

I never found a full tutorial but recently did mine - have a look at Shada's WIP Build Thread (sorry, can't figure out how to add a link while on Tapatalk) for some pictures and a description of my technique

Hi Jake. The thumbnails aren't coming out any larger than what you have posted so it's a little hard to tell. Can you post some larger pics?

I'm having trouble uploading larger pictures; I keep getting a file size too large error.

That's frustrating. Maybe try photobucket? A lot of us use that free service for our pictures. Another idea would maybe drop a line to the webmasters (Griffin-X or Forest Ranger) and see if they could help you batter than I.

After taking these I've painted the TD hose a darker color and have reinforced the pouches to make a more sharper square shape. My main concerns are the vest sleeves being too long and maybe the cod piece needs to be tapered more? I've also added some elastic straps to help hold the chest and back armor to the cummerbund better. Other than some strapping and the uppers of my boots I'm almost ready for full suit up pics.

I've also ironed the cummerbund, sorry for the sloppy pics but I was excited!

No need for apologies Jake. It's an awesome thing to get suited up and take a look at your work! You're looking good and here are a few things I see.

1.) You're right on the vest sleeves they are a bit too long you want them just past the shoulder bells about 0.5" to 1"

2.) The bund is over the back armor so you need to tighten up that bund a bit more and make sure the armor lays over the bund but the elastic you mentioned might help that. Take a deep breath and PULL ;)

3.) If you can bring the pouches up against the chest armor and over towards to center a bit but not over the 5-6 ribs of the front of your bund. The pouches should sit between the belt and chest armor. These look a little too big.

4.) The thigh boxes need to be leveled a bit so they are about equal front and back. Looks like the are sloping a bit towards the front.

You've already addressed the TD and cleaned up the pouches and that's great.

You have a great start and just need a little adjusting and tweaking to get the fitment right. Remember too that you'll have a flight suit under all of this which is going to bulk you out a bit so keep that in mind when you're measuring and fitting your armor. Makes a difference when you suit up with bund and vest. Keep it up and post more pictures!

Wow! Really nice work Jake! You are really looking great and nice job on the weathering. Here are a few items that I see based on the pics:

1.) Roll that bicep and forearm armor over to the front. It's too far back. It's probably from donning the armor and it has a tendency to roll over like that. Some folks attach velcro to help keep it from rolling over. The tips of the forearm armor will go over your gauntlets.

2.) Bring those drop boxes up to about an inch from your belt. They're a little low.

3.) The TD is looking a bit crooked and needs to be straightened. Again this is probably from donning the armor. When you take your approval photos have the person taking them make sure your various bits and bobs are aligned.

4.) You got the dreaded cod crinkles. There are some good methods to keep that from occurring. I inserted a thin layer of shaped plastic in my cod to help with that but that's not the only method. Check with an armorer or a garrison mate that's a Pathfinder.

5.) Your flight suit is bunching up above the knees. A good method is when you put your knee armor on pull the fabric taught then put on your boots. I added some stirrups into my flight suit legs to help keep them tight.

6.) I still think your pouches could move in a tad. Align them with the outside seams on your bund.

7.) I just noticed that your right boot (blaster) velcro is reversed. It should be left over right (from the front). I don't think that will affect basic approval but you'll want to fix it before you submit for Lancer.

I hope this helps brother. Just a few minor fitment tweaks and most of those come from just putting it on and adjusting. As I mentioned you are looking really good!

Almost. They need to come over Just a bit more than aligned with the bell bottoms. Take a gander at some of the approval threads. That might help give you a better picture.

I can't dress myself!! I'm reaching out to see if anyone has some tips for me. I can pretty much put everything on myself except for the flak vest, I cant velcro the back properly. Does anyone have a magnet setup for their TD? I know I've seen it on the site before but can't seem to locate it now??

In a word, a handler. It's tough to put this gear on alone. I know some scouts are able to do it, though. But not me! ;)

I also put the vest on like a t-shirt - the Velcro is only there because the CRL requires it, it's never been opened again! TD magnet set up is in Pandatrooper's thread (the pinned one everyone starts with) and I used it in mine as well : http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=15005&st=40 see 25 April post
