Bobik96 Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 Thoughts on this mock up? Stuffed with 1/4 foam stabilizer and a rigid iron on stabilizer. Shout out to Strider for the idea. It's made of muslin because that's all I had on hand. It's also pinned with the wrong size Velcro which I am holding in the back. I have cut out 6 different templates with file folders until I got this one. Almost 8 inches in height are hidden behind the bund for adjustments. New pouches are next. I think these are about an inch and a half too wide. Apologies for the upward camera angle. I used the timer on top of a chair. 2
BikerScout007 Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 Looks good! Did you put the crescent in it yet or can I just not see it? You probably don't want it going to far between your legs either
Bobik96 Posted June 23, 2016 Author Posted June 23, 2016 Thx. No they are not there because I plan to use this foam with different fabric. 1
BikerScout007 Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 Gotcha. I made mine from duckcloth and put the foam in it as well. Looking good! 1
Bobik96 Posted June 23, 2016 Author Posted June 23, 2016 Thx brother. Once again... I don't know if I love or hate the ST6 ART It did get me motivated to do some upgrading. 1

NinjaScout Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 I want to do this too before my lancer app. Is there a link to the right kind of foam I should look for? I checked the local fabric store last weekend but didn't see anything that would work. 2
Bobik96 Posted June 24, 2016 Author Posted June 24, 2016 I got the foam and iron on stabilizer at wal-mart. You buy it by the foot like fabric. They also have white duck cloth and another thick canvas that I used on my bund. 1
NinjaScout Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Something like this for the stabilizer? http://www.joann.com/pellon-p44fjas-fusible-interfacing-white-by-the-yard/7012081.html#sz=90&start=1 I have plenty of duck canvas. Just need the foam and to motivate my wife to do more sewing.

Bobik96 Posted June 24, 2016 Author Posted June 24, 2016 Looks great, brother! Thank you. Your thread was very helpful. 1
Bobik96 Posted June 24, 2016 Author Posted June 24, 2016 Here it is with Velcro sewed on the cod and a mock up of the new pouch. The pouch is the same height but 1.5 inches narrower. This stuff holds its shape pretty good for now when moving. 2
StoutScout Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Like that but the heavyweight. On the same page is the 1/4 inch sew in stabilizer that you could use for foam. I used that stabilizer as well and it worked great! I also added a layer of buckram for added structure. 2
bikerscout73 Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 I did the same thing it's so much better......... And is movie accurate 1
Bobik96 Posted July 30, 2016 Author Posted July 30, 2016 Okay I made new pouches and three cod pieces. They are the exact same shape with different arch placement. It's crazy how different the look. Thoughts? 1
Strider Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 That's an interesting observation! I like the left one best.
Bobik96 Posted July 30, 2016 Author Posted July 30, 2016 I appreciate the input. The right one is made out of duck cloth. That seemed to give it sharper edges. The other two are twill.
Strider Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 Softer edges are closer to the original IMO. But great job, looks really good!
Nexous Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 Man, you made THREE amazing.... I like the middle / right, I tend to favor slimmer cods personally 1
Bobik96 Posted July 30, 2016 Author Posted July 30, 2016 Softer edges are closer to the original IMO. But great job, looks really good! I agree with the softer edges. i feel like I should remake the one on the right with twill. Possible taking off an inch of width at the top. The fabric bunches at the edge of the arch causing little points to push out. The points are exaggerated when using thicker fabric like duck cloth. I like the shape of the left one but it seems too large. There is 1/8 rubber under the arch. It looks good but may be too heavy. It wants to pull straight down. I think I'll try plastic in the next one. It's sometimes hard to remember that I have a wider and longer torso than the screen scouts making the exact shape difficult.

Been through numerous iterations myself and still not 100% satisfied. Yeah, the left one could be a tad bit smaller but I like the roundish shape and the soft edges. For the part under the arch you could also try thin foam rubber or buckram. You'll get there! 2
BikerScout007 Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Just to make it even more difficult for you, I like the middle one. It's a good blend of the other two and seems the right size. 1
Bobik96 Posted September 11, 2016 Author Posted September 11, 2016 Well I gave up on the curved design. I wasn't happy with any of them. Last night I made a new old school triangle. I used duck cloth, foam, backed the whole thing with iron on stabilizer, and curved ABS plastic below the arch. with my new "smaller" duck cloth pouches I think it is a good upgrade. I don't know if we will ever solve the mystery of what these things were really made of and the exact shape. BEFORE AND AFTER.
