Knee armour, not riveting elastic

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried, with a Lancer spec knee, not actually riveting the elastic for the top part? I mean put the rivet in (as it has to be there) but using velcro to attach the 1/2 inch elastic at the top instead of attaching it to the rivet.

Just thinking of putting on the knees and it seems that would be easier if all the elastic were velcroed so you can place it on rather than having to work it up the leg.

As long as it looks right from the outside, it doesnt matter how it's connected inside the knee armor.

Haven't heard that approach, but as 007 said, the visual of the rivet is what counts. Whether it's functional or not is inconsequential.

It's common practice to use a dummy rivet on the tank topper, and that's been acceptable. This doesn't seem any different.

Not that I've done it(mine are separate as recommended on the crl), but then why is having the bund attached to the flightsuit a no-go if you can't see it?

Purely for info

I'm going to venture a guess here and say that the cummerbund is required to be separate from the flight suit because we KNOW it's separate from the flight suit.

Think of it like Kylo Ren. "Couldn't I just have sleeves instead of the whole tunic? No one sees that part." This might be true, but we know the layers and construction, hence the requirement.

Now, if you wanna talk codpiece attached to vest...

There's some spirited debate there, and compelling arguments "For", but without definitive info both are acceptable as long as the correct overall look is achieved.

I did my knees this way and so did Proxis.

I originally riveted the elastic in, but upon finding out I need white, I redid them with the rivets and a snap behind them. The elastic is attached with snaps. I will put it in my build thread =)
