The math of it all..... open call for 5'4" troopers

Clearly troopers come on all size and shapes ---and that then translates to an infinite number of adjustments and alterations needed to the individual pieces of these complex suits. I wish to learn from those who came before me.... as I clearly am too short for a stormtrooper.

I believe it would be ultimately very helpful to connect with those amongst us who are most similar in body shape and stature, as the details of the aforementioned alterations will help quite a bit. My goal is to troop in my own hometown of Orlando at Star Wars Celebration in 2017. At least, thats my goal. To that end, if you are similar in build, I need to connect with you: 5'4" - 5'5" , 29" inseam, 34 waist.

Hey Nick!

Short 5'6" trooper-want-to-be here! I have all the same concerns as you and am researching like crazy. It seems that going TB is a great choice for us. With the soft armor being something very customizable (Flakk jacket, flight suit and cummerbund/codpiece) you don't have to worry too much about ruining the expensive plastic. I haven't ordered my kit yet but I've been pointed to SC for people our size.

I'll be starting my build soon enough and when I start my build thread I will make sure to point out modifications needed to be made for those of our stature.

I'm 5'8" and the SC fit me fine with some mods to fit my body shape better. It's mostly related to trimming so the armor "fits" your body size cleanly. Blitzjaeger is another Scout around here that is a smaller trooper and you can always hit him up too. You can see some of the mods on my build thread if you are interested: http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=14946

Another good idea is to keep updated on the MO and FL garrison sites and find out when they are going to have an "armor party" where you can work together with an experienced trooper to build your armor.

Hey hey, I'm 5'6" 34" waist. I have SC armor and sewed all my own soft pieces. It's been zen so far. I saved the helmet and boots for last and I just saw @salacious post his work on his boots.

Here's a quick test fit before I sewed the pouches on. b82e7c0708e9eba0dd9909b0dac18f44.jpg

Looks great! Did you need to do any trimming on those shoulder bells?

Not yet. I'll taper it off like Panda has.

I'll tell you right now. Be damn carful with what you take off. The shoulder bells need about a 1" taken off of them and the corners rounded. As for trimming the armor just watch it! You can always take away but you can't put back.

my friend is 5'-4" and 135lbs...he's probably size 29 pants. so this thread is very helpful for him. he wanted to do republic commando, but those armors are like for people around 6'-0" tall.

would the KS armor kit be a lot of trimming for him?

thanks

Well gents, I decided to go with the SC armor kit. I have to say thus far my experience with SC has been amazing. Said on the site it'd be 5-7 days, ordered it last Thursday (08/18/16) and it arrived today (08/22/16)! Holy smokes was that fast. I've been sent constant communication and the second it arrived at the post office I was emailed a tracking number. Also, numerous tutorials on how to assemble were included for not only the armor but the helmet as well. I'm 5'7" and 135-140ish. 28-30 waist, and 29-30 inseam. A petite lil'feller. So far just mocking everything up it doesn't look that many adjustments will need to be made minus some on the bells, but like Tim (Stroker) says I'm going to be veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery careful when making said modifications. I'll keep you updated on my progress and let you know! Hope to start assembly in the next week. I'll be doing the soft armor in the next month or so, the wife has a friend who's a pretty good tailor/seamstress so at least I got that going for me.

That's another advantage of the Scout - it really fits loss of different body types well. With the SC, you really shouldn't even have to do much trimming. A lot of getting the look right is going to lie in the positioning of everything. I highly recommend snaps or Velcro to keep everything in the right spot versus relying solely on the elastic strapping.

Do a dry run fitting, post up some pics... You might be surprised. Aside from the bells and maybe a nip on the shoulder straps you may not have to do much "sizing" at all.

Same dimensions here - except 5'5 and had enough of Hobbit cosplay

Guess we'll all just be scouts of the compact & bijou variety lol

Hi,

I'm 5'-5" 150 lbs and seriously researching Biker builds and armor/helmet options. I just finished my TK a few months ago and looking for a new challenge. Hope to be a Scout in the future.

I'm 5'5" myself and the SC kit fits really well, I barely had to do any trimming at all. And as a few have mentioned, TB is the way to go with the majority of the costume being fabrics. But I feel your pain bro but then again, if you think about it, TB's were used to scout and recon people and positions so being smile is of a great benefit to get in and out without being seen lol!
