Belt repair inquiry

So i have a SC belt, so i assume it's ABS. On the belt next to where i combined 2 pieces, stress cracks have formed on both the top and bottom.

 

I am looking to see the best way to repair/strengthen this area so the cracks wont further open, or snap the whole piece.

 

My thoughts are to a) glue a small backing of ABS or sintra to the back of the belt, so as to give it strength, use glue to fill in the crack from the front, and then do my best to cover the crack with maybe fix it plastic weld.

 

 

But i am open to suggestions from those that may already have experienced this issue.

Well, there's always the option of ringing up SC and seeing if you can get some replacement parts.

 

That said, strengthening it from the back is really your best bet. Not really worth gluing the crack from the front. The flexing will just crack it again.

 

If you want to prevent the cracking from going any farther, the old trick is to drill a hole at the tip of the crack. In this case, find yourself a teeny-tiny drill bit and make a hole just big enough. Then you can either patch and repaint or leave it as is and cover it with some "weathering".

Yeah, replacement parts is lower on the list due to budget, but definitely on the list.

One note: when you're gluing the back reinforcement, don't use CA/Crazy glue. That stuff dries too rigid and will just crack. Use Goop/E6000 to keep the bond flexible.

Go to Walmart & go to the auto parts section. You can buy a Bondo fiberglass repair kit for under $15. Very easy to use & will fix your problem. Repair the crack from the back & it will be stronger than ever. I had to do this on my chest plate.

I used this kit to repair a 100% crack on my boot holster.
