Armor and helmet advice for a tk new to scouts

I've been a Tk for a long while, and have looked into scout stuff ages ago. I have been a member here for a long while, but since I've been out of the game for a while I don't know what info I know is old and what's going on these days.

So anyway one of my main concerns as a Tk is that I'm short. I'm 5'6'' 121lb. It's hard as a shorter tk to be super accurate and still be able to walk and look good haha. So I was wondering what armor makers and also helmets are best for shorter dudes.

I have seen sc armor with ks helmets look good on guys my size, but is there anything especially good to people my size? I also have a semi long neck, so would a smaller helmet still be good? Or should I go for a bucket with a longer faceplate like lw to cover some of the neck? Thanks in advance.

SC helmet would be good for you. They are also a bit on the small side

You can't go wrong with the SC armor. I'm three inches taller than you and some of the mods I had to do was to cut the shoulder bells back about 1.5" or so, trim the shoulder tabs back and relocate the side tabs on the front and rear armor. I'm wearing an Altmann's lid and it works great for me but I would defer to Mickey on the lids as he has way more experience than I in that department. The LW lid is super duper rare and your chances of finding one of those gems is akin to Han giving the Falcon back to Lando for nothing ;) . Remember too that your neck/chin will be covered with your flight suit neck closure and balaclava so as long as your chin doesn't stick out too far you should be good.

Im exactly your size Pat! 5'6'' and 120 on the nose =)

I have an SC kit and a Kropserkel helmet. I sewed my own bund, vest and pouches to my size. You can see next to most of the 5 foot crowd youll look fine, the only guys that make us seem "small" are the big dudes like my buddy Mike (Ozarkscout) the 6 foot plus club as it were haha.

Feel free to ask questions!

Thanks for the replies! Believe it or not I thinkin saw a post you made in a thread while searching for threads about shorter troopers Chase. :) I thought your armor looked really awesome so I'm glad you replied. What mods did you have to do to get it to fit like that (if any). Any particular flight suit you go that works for people out size? I was considering lifts, but you seem to look good without them.

Edit: also do you use a helmet liner or no?

Thanks!

I bought a Red Kap flight suit but it is actually a bit too small and I may sell it later on. I suggest a size larger than you think you need if you get one...(I bought a small and it is a little too small)

I dont think you will need lifts honestly...next to the majority of people you wont notice much height disadvantage.

As to mods:

I cut my shoulderbells corners off and tapered them (like Panda troopers build) but did not change lengths.

I fit m chest and back armor to myself and had a friend mark the connections at the top, then taped them with painters tape and heat gunned the top so it would change shape to my size, then dunked it in ice water to freeze it.

Same on the belt, heated the two plastic additions up and bent the belt into a smaller size then dunked in ice water.

I cut 0.5 inches off the bottom and both sides of my boot holster, then rounded corners.

I dont use a helmet liner, just foam window sealer for now.

I can show you pictures of anything you like, just let me know! =)

Thanks for the info! Any special strapping? You have to get the flight suit tailored? Also I really like your cumberbund. What pattern did you use?

The only extra strapping I used was to add straps on the ends of the pants to hold the legs in while putting boots on and I added suspenders to my bund to hold it up. Thanks! I just made it up looking at pictures and other peoples designs, I am actually going to be offering some pouches and bunds on the side if you are interested.

And yes, my suit was tailored but I may do a new one myself now that I saw how he did it...

You have any opinions about sc helmets for guys our size? I saw one in person this weekend and it looked smaller than I imagined. I was surprised how much I liked the look of it too considering I feel like it looks different then the movie ones shape wise.

As Cheyenne says: The SC will look fine on you, it is nearly the same size. I just personally think the Kropserkel is slightly better looking, mostly because the KS has ridges inside the mask that seal against the visor and give it a cleaner look from the front and has a really nice return edge under the chin that matches the movie helmets.

The SC and KS are very similar in shape and size especially around the snout, but the SC and KS greebly are both in need of replacement for better accuracy. I would go with Far Away Creations for the Stickers and Snout Greebly.

Also the KS has a nice black lens that is gray and easy to see through from the wearers side but very very dark from the outside, where as the SC has a green tinted visor (do you want to see EVERYTHING in green?) and has to have strange tabs mounted inside to hold the lens (if you want it replaceable and follow their instructions).

All said and done, it is your decision. I personally like SC armor with a KS helmet, but thats just my one opinion.

I went with a new snout from Lou (DVH) and got my sticker set from Trooperbay for my Altmann's. I love the snout and the stickers are well done too.

I'm working on a second hand KS lid now and need a source for a new lens other than the green shy suggestions?
