Yellowing armor - to paint or not to paint

Greetings fellow dodgers!

 

After 3 years and close to 50 troops my armor is now turning a bit yellow. It's unpainted ABS from MC, and I'm starting to look like a custard pie next to newer troopers so I need to fix it before I'm sent to the back of the parades.

 

Has anyone tried the Retrobright formula that's available on the internet? Does it give a good result?

 

Or option 2, has anyone painted their armor and gotten a good result? I'm thinking that a load of white spray cans and even more varnish might be the way to go. The unsure part is how well it will hold up so I don't end up with a bunch of cracks in the paint.

 

Or will a simple rub down with Novus fix this?

Oops, did a better search on the forum and see that there are two options. Strokers fix with toothpaste and peroxide, or retrobright. Anyone that can recommend either way?

The tooth paste and peroxide is more less retrobrit. Also there's wet sanding. I had to wet sand my TS bucket and then polish it came out great. Then I turned around and weathered it. If you take the faster wet sanding pass just make sure you get at least 2000 grit and lightly lightly start sanding.

Plus, perixode wasn't easy to find here. Apparently I'm quite dangerous since I make drugs with my slush acetone and bombs with the peroxide. Lol!

Going yellow? Weather that kit! That's my option suggestion

For my wife's chest plate I used 4000 wet sandpaper. Took off most of the yellowing. I then added weatehring & it looks fine. For my kit, for some resaon only the right knee, right forearm & right bicep is yellowing. I just make sure I wear it all on the right side when I dress & consider it natural battle damage.

best solution is to rub back the yellow, dont use wet/dry paper as ABS soaks up water, rub all the yellowing off, then coat with an auto paint, this will be UV safe and protect the plastic from the UV which yellows the plastic.

if you use wet rub paper with water, the water which ABS can "soak up" , can act like a "rain coat" which wont allow the paint to stick.

the yellow effect can leach through the paint so get it all off.
