Southscout Posted March 14, 2016 Share Posted March 14, 2016 Greetings fellow dodgers! After 3 years and close to 50 troops my armor is now turning a bit yellow. It's unpainted ABS from MC, and I'm starting to look like a custard pie next to newer troopers so I need to fix it before I'm sent to the back of the parades. Has anyone tried the Retrobright formula that's available on the internet? Does it give a good result? Or option 2, has anyone painted their armor and gotten a good result? I'm thinking that a load of white spray cans and even more varnish might be the way to go. The unsure part is how well it will hold up so I don't end up with a bunch of cracks in the paint. Strokers fix with toothpaste and peroxide, or retrobright. Anyone that can recommend either way? And one more way from http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=13231&st=0, 12% peroxide cream. I had to wet sand my TS bucket and then polish it came out great. Then I turned around and weathered it. Chunk Posted March 14, 2016 Share Posted March 14, 2016 For my wife's chest plate I used 4000 wet sandpaper. Took off most of the yellowing. I then added weatehring & it looks fine. For my kit, for some resaon only the right knee, right forearm & right bicep is yellowing. spike Posted March 15, 2016 Share Posted March 15, 2016 best solution is to rub back the yellow, dont use wet/dry paper as ABS soaks up water, rub all the yellowing off, then coat with an auto paint, this will be UV safe and protect the plastic from the UV which yellows the plastic. if you use wet rub paper with water, the water which ABS can "soak up" , can act like a "rain coat" which wont allow the paint to stick. the yellow effect can leach through the paint so get it all off. hope that helps cheers Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
