ShaunPug Posted February 4, 2016 Share Posted February 4, 2016 Hey everyone! I've recently been in close contact with ukswrath from whitearmor. He is a member in the Golden Gate Garrison and his number designation is TK/TD/HWT-10116. His name is Tony and he is an extremely well respected member of the 501st and people follow his work very closely on Whitearmor! He has several sale threads running over there, and one is for a self-contained helmet audio system for TKs which is insanely awesome. Well, Tony got in touch with me and wants to see how interested we Scouts would be in having a similar system for us! I went ahead and put together a video demo to show how the system would work after getting the components from Tony. A couple of things to note before you watch the video: 1) This is not a complete system yet! This is meant to gauge interest and work out kinks, etc. 2) The Snout greeblie I was given was an MC made piece. This piece is molded as 1 piece rather than 2 and represents one of the biggest questions for this system. Should it be supplied with the backing plate and engine/mic tip as one piece? Or is it best to have your own backing plate to match whatever make of helmet you have and just be supplied with the engine/mic greeblie. Watch the video through to see why this matters. 3) i-Comm was not tested in this video. I think it's generally thought of as being overkill for Scouts and unnecessary for "accuracy". TKs need the clicks, but Biker Scouts don't! This would also increase the cost of a kit for this system exponentially. As far as the Snout greeblies are concerned, there are several options, and this is one of the main reasons why we need everyones preferences. The larger DonJarr greebie would actually provide louder speaker output because it would fit a larger speaker after it was hollowed out. However, this options creates a great deal more work for Tony, and DonJarr does not sem to be providing them very often. It seems like the best overall option due to all helmet makers backing plates being different sizes, is to make a hollowed out MC snout with Mic installed that could then be fitted to any backing plate on any helmet. I have that issue with the full face motorcycle helmets. It may not look like it, but my head is pretty big. There is more than enough space in the CB bucket. What maker do you have? I wonder if anything special would need to be done with an Altmann to install it. Ukswrath's system looks great and simple to put it. Count me as interested! Also cool video! From what I've seen, the installation of the system itself shouldn't be much different regardless of the helmet. Drilling the hole in the helmet behind the snout will need to be done no matter what. Ensuring that you have a backing plate that matches your helmet will be very important as well. Other than that it's all about finding space in your bucket! Soon as the casted components are to my satisfaction, I want them perfect for you guys, Ssales and shipping will comence. I do have a question though, these will come assembled with the speakers and screen installed and the prototype I had Shaun demo I painted. I can offer them unpainted to save a few bucks for those who like to DIY. I can offer them this way as long as they're painted correctly, without damaging the electronics or speaker cloth. Would anyone be interested in this version? Keep in mind, due to variety of length snouts being produced the only portion of the snout being sold is the engine and Hovi section, hope this is alright, feedback welcome.
