indylead Posted January 25, 2016 Share Posted January 25, 2016 Ok, one troop under my belt and the only issue I found with the costume from a comfort point of view is...how can I put this...it's a bit of a challenge to bend over/kneel down without risking some seriously embarressing ripping noises from the nether regions. Bascially, the overalls I used are a little short in the body length and don't give much space to bend over. This is despite the waist being a little larger than I need, and enough hip material to set sail in windy conditions. So...some help please. Can someone with a red kap Large or XL (48" chest or 50" chest version) measure the distance from the top of the collar, down the back to the crotch then back up the front to the throat for me? For example, my suit is 76". If anyone has other overalls of a similar chest size, this would be really useful too. I'm 6'2", inside leg is 32", waist 46", chest 48". For example I got a 42L because I heard the torsos were a little short. You got me worried so just tried the "kid meet requirements" - But can still bend etc. Phew. Bit tight on the knees however. Beware of any company that calls this a "tall" size, because that's incorrect. Long should mean long torso, Tall should mean longer legs. indylead Posted January 26, 2016 Author Share Posted January 26, 2016 I've bitten the bullet and ordered two redkaps, both long, but in different chest sizes. Hopefully one will fit well! I did email wampawear for a measurement on their suit, but just got an email back with the sizing chart which doesn't quote the body length. I'll update once I get them so others have some data. The waist of the flight suit is never seen, because it's entirely covered by the cummerbund. Cut it in half, sew in a strip of material between the halves, et voila - a longer torso! I was excited to get home tonight and get my red kap coveralls out of the mailbox. Tried them on and I had a very hard time getting in and out of them. They look great once on, but very uncomfortable. Torso too short, makes the back of the collar seam dig into my neck. Had to get online and order the 42L. indylead Posted June 15, 2017 Author Share Posted June 15, 2017 Ooops....got caught up with trooping and other projects and never reported back to this. After a year of trooping with the longer redkapp suit - much, much better. Much less tight over the knee and crotch when I crouch down, and far more comfortable. Also of note...double-ended zip. This is the best thing ever to wind up your fellow TKs as the (male) Scouts can visit the toilet without having to take anything off I also didn't need to do too many mods on the suit. The legs were a little tighter so didn't need to be changed; the rest was pretty much as normal. Don't over-estimate the ability to crouch down to get on a level with kids. We're a little less scary that way, plus I can sit the ewok (Number One Suspect) on my knee next to them - he's a huge hit.
