Alternative to ankle boots?

For years, most of us have used ankle-high work boots or the like as base boots. I've always liked the added support of these boots, too.

 

However, has anyone used a low-ankle boot? Were they easier to put on? Any issues?

 

I found these, similar to regular Oxford-style shoes, but a little taller:

 

 

Aside from the two-tone sole (which I intend to paint) and the missing teeth (which I intend to cut), I'm thinking of using these as my next base boot.
