Screen lineage 3D printed helmet?

Recommended Posts

This is an Idea that I have had for a few months ever since the Battlefront beta and files have been released online and I hope someone with the knowhow and materials can make this happen. All of the characters, weapons, and vehicles in the up and coming Battlefront game were 3d scanned from original screen used props, costumes, and model miniatures used in the original trilogy. The biker scout is no exception from that list and If you have seen in-game footage, played the beta, or even seen screen caps you will know that the Scout looks spot on. That being said I have found a playermodel addon for the PC game Garry's Mod that has the same model file and I will post up pictures of it in a bit. There was a thread on here a few months ago where someone was working on a 3d printable scout helmet but I haven't seen anything on it recently, If you could combine the files of the 3D scanned model of a screen used helmet with a few tweaks (probably a lot more than a few) to the design to separate the faceplate from the helmet and make it hollow and have thickness you could make a geometrically screen accurate helmet. I thought I would just throw this out there as a lot of you are upset about waiting for other companies to produce and ship out lineage hemets and this would be pretty cool if it worked out. No offense to other propmakers out there who fan sculpt helmets and to people who have fan sculpted helmets as those helmets are very beautiful helmets and most are pretty accurate looking considering you are mostly going off of pictures for reference. But if you have OCD like me (literally), and you really want something that looks just like the original you know how hard it is to get your hands on a LW helmet which is darn close to the originals and preordering anything star wars these days usually takes years to actually get. This could be a cool solution! Thoughts?

I can't imagine what a high quality print of a helmet would cost. I do know that I have been buying various Shapeways printed parts for my Fett and even little things printed in the best material are expensive - not so much in the lower quality materials - but you can tell the difference.

Technically most prop makers are infringing on copyrights. Aside from Anovos, noone has the license to create this stuff. However most stay underground enough, dont make enough money to warrant action, or dont make these things publicly available, as in a website blatantly selling them, so LFL usually turns a blind eye especially because they know most of these guys are selling to Legion or potential legion members, which does benefit them to an extent.

As far as the cost, yes, 1 thruster for Boba Fett's jetpack is around $50 if i recall correctly, so a helmet would likely be astronomical and not cost effective to produce.

The Scout model for the game is actually not that great as far as shape goes but looks amazing when the photographic texture is overlaid over the polys. The scout armor has already been ripped from the game and is posted on facebooks pep library as an unfolded Pepakura.
