Flykiller Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Hi ! (again) I've read on different topics that it was accurate to have the tank with a gap. On mine (MLC) it seem to be more than just a gap, I'm pretty sure I shoul trim and cut some parts. Could you please tell me if I'm right ? Thank you for your time and help
01Hawk Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Can you slide it up a little ? Looks like if it was moved up a bit it would fit perfect.
Flykiller Posted November 6, 2015 Author Posted November 6, 2015 Hi 01Hawk, Thanks a lot for your answer. The fact is I tried to slide it a little, but the screw located at the bottom of the tank will not allow it. When I don't put the screw in, it fit. Should I leave the tank with no screw at the bottom ? I can try to manipulate the screw again, but yesterday I didn't manage to get the tank in a better position...
01Hawk Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Can you post a picture of the bottom with the rest of the tank lined up correctly? It is supposed to be a rivet and as Long as the hole on the back plate isn't exposed you should be able to just make a new hole.
Chef Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 I'd trim a little out of the upper section where it joins the bottom raised section of the back plate. That should solve all your issues.
Flykiller Posted November 6, 2015 Author Posted November 6, 2015 Ok ! Then I removed the screw and try to get the tank lined up correctly. Now, it's the top that get a huge gap : thanks again !
Flykiller Posted November 6, 2015 Author Posted November 6, 2015 I'd trim a little out of the upper section where it joins the bottom raised section of the back plate. That should solve all your issues. Thank you for your help Chef. That's was a part of my question. As I had been told MLC used to fit perfectly I wasn't sure it could be a good idea to trim. It is sure that I would prefer not to modify the tank, but I feel like I won't have the choice. As you can see on my new picture, even when I get the screw off the tank the top show a real gap too. (sorry if my english is approximate, I try to be the clearest possible :/)
Chef Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Pictures are better than words in that case... Carefully trim this area here, until it will sit in place. It may well be that you need to push the bottom of the back plate up a little to help it sit correctly. Keep an eye on the bit in the circle, make sure these correspond to the bump on the back. Also make sure the bit around the dotted line runs in the same plane as the backplate. REMEMBER: take small bits out, try... take another small bit out, try again. Don't take a big chunk out, because you can't put it back in again! 2
Flykiller Posted November 7, 2015 Author Posted November 7, 2015 Don't take a big chunk out, because you can't put it back in again! Ok Thank you ! I will post new photos once the tank is modified.
Bobaben Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 I like the look of that armor! As far as the tank the MLC appears to be much more accurate than SC. That's the one thing that really stands out for me about the SC armor-the tank is too small. I may end up with a hybrid suit! Looking forward to seeing this completed.
Dart Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 Gaps are ok with the tank. If you check out the screen-shots from the gallery, you'll see that the tank doesn't sit flush with the back armour.
Chef Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 It's true.... some of them had gaps you could hide Ewoks in. But in essence, who actually thought they were a 2 part system when they first watched the film?? The mind told us it was all a one part back plate, so trying to get the gap as flush as possible makes the costume more believable on close inspection in person.
Flykiller Posted November 9, 2015 Author Posted November 9, 2015 I didn't find the time necessary yet. I'll show you what I have done with my tank as soon as possible. Thanks again for all your help
Flykiller Posted November 14, 2015 Author Posted November 14, 2015 Well.. I have been working for a few days on it now, but I'm still disappointed with the result I get. I tried to trim and to work on the screw, on the hole... I still have a gap I don't like. Here are some photos : I think I'm going to give up with trying to get better...
01Hawk Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 It looks good! It is tighter than mine and tighter than a lot you will see.
Flykiller Posted November 14, 2015 Author Posted November 14, 2015 Really ?! Even the left side on the first photo ? Maybe it's due to the bad quality of my picture because there is a real gap...
bwattsup Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Better than mine too, and I have MC as well. Look at the on screen armor, and you'll become satisfied with your gap. No ones going to notice it but you.
Flykiller Posted November 15, 2015 Author Posted November 15, 2015 Well. Then, I'm more satisfied with my tank since I've read your messages.
Oblivian Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 If you wan't to remain fussy. You can line the edge with a crayon or coloured chalk and place it on, it will indicate where it is impacting and with any luck rub off the edge where trimming/more sanading is required But looking, its possibly wanting to be dropped down ever so slightly more. But then again, I've only ordered gloves and overalls so far, so don't listen to me
Flykiller Posted November 15, 2015 Author Posted November 15, 2015 But then again, I've only ordered gloves and overalls so far, so don't listen to me Thanks ! That's exactly what I've done, but the screw is the real problem... MC tank came with the hole not really well placed I think. Without the screw in, I have no gap.
Guest Forrest Patrol Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 Just as long as you can't do a barrel roll through the gap, it should be ok.
