Oberkisstillalive
Hey guys I am happy to report that my MC armor kit and cummerbund with pouches finally came in on Halloween after 16 months of waiting! While I was and still am extremely overjoyed that I have the kit it finally donned on me that I am a total and complete noob and have almost no sewing skills or experience, have never trimmed armor, let alone built a real costume like this before. You guys on the forum make it look so easy lol. The instructions disc that comes with the kit is pretty vague for a noob like me though after reading through it a number of times it is slowly starting to make sense. I really don't know where to get started as I am very overwhelmed. To make matters worse I REALLY want to have this completed, or at least wearable (ie not perfectly completed or 501st ready (yet) but still look nice), in time so I can wear it to the Force Awakens release next month. I really need some guidance please lol
Darth Voorhees
MC's kit is pretty simple in that you dont need to trimm much off it unless your very small. most of the armor parts are ready to go out of the box. you just need to add the elastic straps to the parts. If you cant sew well and want to keep it to a minimum, you can hotglue the straps in on the inside of the parts. From the outside it looks exactly the same, and it wont hinder you 501s clearance. the only thing you may need to trim is the chest and back, where they go over your shoulders. I actully overlap mine about and inch. chest over the back and have a chicago screw holding them together which also holds on the canvas wrap that goes around this area. It keepos everyhting in place very well and is fairly simple to do. Even though i can sew a little, i cant help ya too much on that . You'll need to get a jumpsuit from a maker if you can find one, or modify a redkap (or similar) coverall. That is likely the hardest part. If you know someone handy with a sewing machine, it shouldnt be too hard for them to do the mods.
bwattsup
The sweing is pretty easy for the basic parts Andrew. I had never sewn before and completed mine myself. The only part that's really tricky is the riding patches, and making a pattern for your vest. Both of those could be completed after the movie if you don't have time to finish it beforehand. Do you have access to a sewing machine? Also, have you made contact with your local garrison? You might be able to find some local assistance at an armor party, or someone close by willing to help show you the ropes.
Stroker
Take your time. Don't rush it. Those are the keys. Don't let the tank get to you my daughters WTF kit I learnt a lot about not rushing it. It took me a month to make the tank and helmet seamless. After seeing the two and three day builds I was stoked! Now I've constructed 7 five piece helmets.
Oberkisstillalive
thanks guys! Wow I had no idea you could use hot glue. I might actually try that as I have a hot glue gun. I don't really have access to a sewing machine unless I am at my grandmas, so I will ask her. I guess I am just psyching myself out lol
Darth Voorhees
Yea it was a trick i did on my wifes as we were on a time constrain and we ended up leaving it as it held so well lol
CRISTONAMO
I used E6000 on all my strapping including the belt except the chest to back underarm, thats velcro for adjustments. The strapping can be completely finished in a few hours. The armor is all trimmed and having met you already I know you're close to my size, I did not trim the MC chest. And it fits well as you saw in person, DM me on IG and I can help you through the process.

01Hawk
I was intimidated by the sewing aspect of things but started out practicing making the straps. I bought a bunch of extra materials from Joann fabrics and just practiced till I was able to make them. My stitch work won't win me any awards but I was glad I learned how to do it. I used the industrial Velcro ( had s picture of fire extinguisher hanging up on it) for all the straps that were black. If you can borrow or buy a machine ( don't need a fancy one - I used a basic singer esteem 2 for everything) you may be happy with the results
