batninja
For my first Scout costume, back in the early days, I used a military flightsuit. It was very lightweight, but wouldn't pass today's requirements due to all the pockets and zippers. For my most recent version, I used the standard Red Kap coveralls. Easier to modify for 501st/Lancer requirements, but I always thought the fabric was too heavy duty for what I wanted. Other than sewing my own (or having one sewn), has anyone found a lighter jumpsuit/coverall option?
bwattsup
Unfortunately I haven't come across one Eric. I looked extremely hard before I ordered my Red Kaps, but couldn't find any in black. I even talked to a few uniform distributors in my area for something lightweight. If you happen to come across any, please let me know. I thought about dying some white coveralls black, but wasn't sure how well that would work. I'm kinda surprised you haven't made your own. I saw your vests/neck seals on TDH the other day. Fantastic job on those as well! And again, thanks for the help with my pouches.
batninja
Barry, thanks for the kind words. Yeah, I'm still sewing, but every now and then, it's nice to find an existing option if it's available. The other option, should I have to (ugh) sew my own, is to reverse-engineer an existing set of the Red Kap coveralls, deconstructing them and making patterns from there, using a lighter fabric for the new one. I did that for a Fett flightsuit back in the day...
bwattsup
That's honestly the best option. I'm thinking about doing the same some day. I truly wish I could find the kind of coveralls I use for work. They're a lightweight arc flash suit. Super comfortable, While I was looking for black coveralls, I did come across some short sleeve black inmate jumpsuits . If your willing to just make sleeves, that could be an option. Dart
Another option is to put some ventilated panels in the jumpsuit where they're underneath the 'bund and flak vest. Sew some mesh in there and then make another hole in the vest for more ventilation. I've got that for mine, and it's made things easier when the weather gets hot. Nomad
Finding lightweight overalls in black has been a challenge. I have sewing experience from my day job making car seats so Im going to look at machines this weekend and make my own.
Tristancraig
ive been doing some searching as well - what do you guys think of the link here in all black? How much modding would be required to make it lancer accurate? http://www.gostwear.com/poly-cotton-coverall-p-40.html

Mnt33r
I went the Redkap route but was thinking of experimenting with some black scrubs--I know some Mando Mercs who use them for their undersuits and they're much lighter than the coveralls. Anyone ever use them for a scout? Chappie

Dao Jones
Bumping this post to see if anyone found anything new in this area. I received this flight suit yesterday, and while it definitely looks the part, it's... really heavy. Best I can describe, its between sailcloth (as in "sails on a ship" canvas), and something I'd cover a car with. And it has zero breathability. It felt stuffy just wearing it around my HVAC'd house. I can't imagine wearing this under a cummerbund, armor, and with my feet, hands, and head covered up; especially not in weather above 70 degrees. So I'm just wondering how troopers in the warmer climates manage this. Did you find something lighter weight, or some other trick to make heavier stuff manageable?
