Hey everyone. I am a 26 year old guy in Lafayette, IN looking to get started in the 501st! After doing some hard thinking about what armor I would like to have, I decided on the impressive looking Biker Scout! However, I have NO IDEA what I am getting myself into. What I do know is I have the time, the money, and the drive to get my own set of armor going. Is there anyone anywhere near Lafayette that would be willing to allow me to see their armor?

Also, I have done some research and found a couple of sites that help build your own armor, but I am very much out of my element here and have no idea how to get started... Do most people actually make their own armor? Or do you buy it? I've also heard there are kits, but really not sure about those either. Any tips would really help :D

Well buying a kit does seem much easier than building your own armor from scratch! I was reading online and starting to get overwhelmed about what was required to make your own armor.

What type of assembly is required for this kit?

Wow that is awesome ! Thanks for pointing that out. How about the boots and gun? I see the helmet online but not sure what works best for these parts of the outfit

Also, everywhere I go I see people complaining about how terrible rubies products are... But the link you gave me recommends getting my helmet from them. What gives? Who is right?

All the people complaining about Rubies are right. Jeff only recommends Rubies because it's an officially licensed product. Don't buy a Rubies whatever you do, unless you're willing to put in a ton of work to make it look right. On that note, I'd highly recommend Studio Creations for armor. As far as the helmet, there are a lot of great one's available. Do some research and find which one is right for you. Each available helmet has their own pros and cons. It is arguably the most important piece of Biker Scout gear. I know that's what attracted me to become one in the first place.

Also Alek, the boots are easy enough to build on your own. There's a tutorial pinned at the top of the boot thread. As far as weapons, again, this is your choice. Do some research. I can't stress that point enough when starting a project like this. Research is the key! :)

I'm looking at the thread that compares the helmet, which is very helpful, but the problem is I don't know what all of these acronyms for the helmets mean...

Here is the thread: http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=10737

Some of the acronyms I'm referring to are LW, DP, KS, CB, SC. They appear to be brands but I don't know what the brand names are so I can do some research

In the "Getting Started" section of the forum, this thread is near the top.

Some of the acronyms are in there (just gotta put it together), but some aren't. I'm going to send you a PM with some info, but I encourage you to expand upon that info with research. Rome wasn't built in a day. :)

Welcome aboard from BatonRouge. So exciting to see so many potential scouts in my garrison! If you haven't, be sure to join la501st.com and get to know your fellow stateside troopers. We get lots of events in your area. Look for me here or there as well as Landeaux. He's a lancer and can help you alot better than I can. I can help you alot as well so you're between two scouts
