Helmet issue

Recommended Posts

I'm curious if anyone else is having a similar issue. My helmet does not close the whole way..i installed magnets to try and help it stay close...the magnets work great however it still does not close. I attached a pic of my helmet so everyone can see what I'm talking about. It's not because it's sitting on a surface either...I can't figure out what to do to keep it closed....any ideas?0c9cca52980d87b557f21b3c615ff8db.jpg

Cant tell for sure, but it looks like the faceplate is either mounted a touch to far back or a bit narrower than the area where it sits on the helmet. You can tell if the faceplate gets pushed apart when you force it closed. You may be able to heat the helmet to either widen that area on the faceplate or narrow that area on the helmet . Id go with the later, as long as you can still get your head in...just to maintain the look of the helmet from the front. It looks like a fiberglass helmet, possibly a MLC3, so it may take a bit of heat, but to make the slight adjustment needed you should be able to do it.

From that pic alone, I can't see exactly why. I'd suggest to keep pivoting and see what hits what as it closes. It might be that the bolts were mounted too far back, causing the back of the visor to touch the resting area. Are you using any Velcro to keep it snug? What kind of bucket is that?

I know a few troopers that attach a small velcro strip on the inside of the edge of the face plate and the outer of the helmet base. Seems to work pretty nicely

It's MLC for sure not exactly sure what version...I moved the magnets back a bit further on my faceplate and it seems to close much nicer...if it starts acting up again I'll just velcro it shut and call it a day. Thanks for the input everyone!

The visor is mounted too low. That's what is making it tight at the bottom. Look at the line from the back of the helmet across the top of the visor. I would get some styrene to place over the current hole so you can cut a new hole a little higher.
