Guest Forrest Patrol
I've seen some guys use headphones and mic, instead of attaching it to the helmet itself.
sylverbard
I'm trying to find a voice thingy for my bucket. Has anyone here attached one to their helmet? voice thingy? icomm makes the 'static hiss' add on. a mic, and an aker amp, complete the set up. the amps are large. there's a speaker setup on FISD that uses small aerator sized speakers and a circuit board set up that a mic plugs into. should fir into a scout bucket but since scouts have no aerators...likely won't be effective. Dart
As scouts, we're very fortunate that speaker size isn't an issue. I've been rockin' an Aker speaker in my left pouch for 5 years. I don't bother with an iComm since the scouts were heard very clearly without the static. Plus, I've had some garrison mates have major issues with them. The aerator speakers are cool but they're not very powerful. The small cone diameter doesn't really allow much volume, so if you're in a noisy convention hall, they're not as useful. theisaac
I use an Aker 10w speaker, ICOMM without static burst (I turn the burst on for my TK), and a throat mic. I love it and its fun to see people get excited because they can hear you talking. I don't know the policy about posting links to them, but you can google ICOMM and find the guy who sells the whole setup. The throat mic was an addition because I couldn't get the mic to sit right with a TK helmet on.

I've just ordered one of these, I think its a non static burst type, comes with ultra slim headset ( see pic 4/7). Have you tried using a headset theisaac? http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/10W-Aker-MR1506-Portable-Loud-Voice-Booster-Amplifier-AMP-Speaker-for-Coaches-/221779826218?nav=SEARCH
Nikko
I just got that same thing, Forrest Patrol. It is quite nice! I have a question about speakers though... The Dimetech/Aker voice amp has what looks like a 4" speaker inside. It gives surprisingly loud amplification. What I am wondering is this: Can I un-wire this 4" original speaker, and wire in a 1" speaker without any other changes? Will this potentially just get really hot, or blow the tiny 1" speaker? I don't know how this works, and have been thinking of ways to disassemble the aker amp and get a really small speaker wired up and placed directly IN my helmet. Please advise if you have really good experience with audio/speakers. The speaker/amp I have is 20W, and the tiny 1" ones are typically close to 5W. Example of the 1" speakers: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2pcs-1-inch-4Ohm-4-5W-Full-range-Audio-Speaker-Loudspeaker-/161450907266?hash=item2597395682 Thanks. Guest Forrest Patrol
Sorry Nikko, I'm no electrician! I might end up shutting down the whole of the UK! I have only just ordered it and haven't got it yet. I would suggest not tampering with it. A 1" speaker in place of a 4" will most likely blow and cause feedback. Its also potentially dangerous especially if it's mounted in your helmet and the speaker blows. Amps and speakers have different watt levels and are supposed to be synced/compatible I think.

Good stuff and what I use for my Tie. http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showuser=11906
theisaac
I've just ordered one of these, I think its a non static burst type, comes with ultra slim headset ( see pic 4/7). Have you tried using a headset theisaac? http://m.ebay.co.uk/...6218?nav=SEARCH That looks like the standard bundle most of us get with the amp/headset. My experience won't help you much because I started my 501st journey as a TK Stormtrooper. The headset that came with mine didn't sit well on my head when doing the famous twist and pull to get my TK helmet on. There is a white line on the mic itself so you know which way to angle the mic in front of your mouth to get the best results. The mic would twist and I had no way to really adjust it. Lots of folks joke about holding the mic in place with your mouth while pulling on your helmet. I ended up cutting off the metal wire that holds the mic on the head and attaching the mic to the helmet with duct tape. It worked like a charm on my TK helmet. Now that I really only troop in my TB or TI, it was easier to get a tactical throat mic that isnt fixed to the helmet. The mic sits in place under my neckseal (TI) or balaclava (TB) and I get great sound. If I could go back in time, I would have never cut the headset mic, and then used a balaclava to help keep the headset in one place. Long story short - you're good with that kit. Enjoy! theisaac
If you want the static burst noise. I use the ICOMM here. The UK has ROM FX I believe it's called. From everything I've read and heard, it works better than the iCOMM. I would hit up a few of the UK Garrison folks and see if they can help you find one of them. Side note: I don't know that static burst is accurate for our costume. When I wear my TB, I don't use the iCOMM. I add an mp3 player with the TB loop playing in the background and then I can talk over the chatter. The effect is really cool and the public gets a kick out of it. JollyRajR
I was able to pick up a pair of surplus mine safety voice amplifiers (for use under gas masks and respirators) for less than twenty bucks for the both.. Government surplus and mine safety kind of stuff yields all sorts of interesting options for this, since in real emergency situations being able to talk to someone in a full containment suit is a bonus.. The gas mask variety the plug in can be had for about 20 bucks surplus.. Was considering modifying the snout piece of my helmet to accommodate that.. Nice because it'd be attached, no wires necessary.. It's a one-stop mic/amplifier since it's supposed to be stuck in a sealed gas mask.. And, originally they're like 170 bucks.. Your tax dollars at work

JollyRajR
I grabbed them via ebay a few years ago.. when I unearth the packages again I'll post which ones I got.. the gas mask ones are pretty easy to find.. search for gas mask amplifier or surplus voice amplifier.. Guest Forrest Patrol
It doesn't really sit on my head too well (I have a funny shaped dome ), so I just put it around the back of my neck under the ski mask. People love it when you speak back to them in 'The Voice'!
ShaunPug
I've been communicating with a member on FISD, ukswrath, and he has been trying to develop a system for Scouts that mimics his setup for TKs. We just met today and are working on getting something to show every one soon! I'll start a build thread a good amount to show everyone! theisaac
Looking forward to seeing the setup. My throat mic works but it's not perfect.
