AxelVBG Posted August 17, 2015 Share Posted August 17, 2015 Hi everyone! I just finally got my MC armor kit , and I'm so pumped to start my build! But first I have a little question about the connection between the "T" straps and the chest and the back armor: They suggest, in the instruction CD, that the "T" straps should be connected to the back and chest armor with snaps... The problem that I have never worked with snaps before and therefore I don't have any snap setting tools. So I was thinking about using velcro instead. So my question is: Does velcro work just fine as an alternative or are snaps the preferred way? I just think it's a little waste of money to buy a new tool just for those four snaps, and if velcro works just fine as an alternative then that's probably what I'll use. Stroker Posted August 17, 2015 Share Posted August 17, 2015 Most all of us use Velcro. I really don't care for the snap method on the scout. Other guys do. Either way you decide to go it's not going to affect you clearance in basic or lancer. I'd go with Velcro cheaper and easier. Sometimes those farting snaps don't seat right and it's a pain. stasz Posted August 18, 2015 Share Posted August 18, 2015 As a fan of snaps, I'll say that I got a pack with a setting tool from JoAnn (a fabric store here in the States) for under $10. I made snap plates - similar but not exactly the same to the ones in Panda's build - to attach my thigh box straps to the belt "buckle", as well as inside the biceps, forearms, and knees to attach to my flight suit. But I use the tried and true Velcro to join the chest/back and hang the shoulder bells from that. Snaps take a bit more time in making the plates and getting the position spot on, but once they're in, everything will always be in the right spot. To echo Stroker though - it won't affect basic or 2nd level approval. Do what works for you! Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
