bwattsup Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Nice find Howard! Is there any way you can make some scans/mold of the soles? I've got an idea in mind that I want to try after I finish my build. Where did you score those at?
Darth Voorhees Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 those are great! They arent the actual correct ones though..but they are darn close! The actual boot has a horizontal line going around the heel as well... but these are fantistic none the less! Both are super hard to find! 1
01Hawk Posted August 14, 2015 Author Posted August 14, 2015 Yea I knew they weren't the right ones when I bought them. Figured they were close enough and don't come up for sale very often so I got them. They actually fit me ( are a bit small) but I want to look into options for replicating the soles ( and at that point could add a line ). Obviously others have them and have had the same thought but it doesn't hurt to look into some options. Worst case they become my new boots lol. I don't have any scans or anything yet not any software to do anything like that. I can give anyone whatever pictures they want tho. Was thinking maybe making some kind of outer piece to glue onto regular boots or something or asking a shoe repair guy what it would cost to resole boots if I could somehow make these soles 1
bwattsup Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 If it were me, I'd immediately start researching mold making. I'd also take some accurate measurements all around with a micrometer. Plus some general scans with a copier of the bottoms of the soles, both sides, and a ruler for scale on each shot.
4505Marcel Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 I recently converted a pair with leather, I did notice the soles were quite brittle. Didn't notice at first, not until I started to pin them up. I don't think the pair I did will ever be trooped in but for display. They would crack I recon, but a close enough find for sure, your not going to get the horizontal details on the sole is the main issue
TB-7076 Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 You're really lucky that you got the right colour. I have to stick with the green ones and repaint them or something :/
JohnnyB Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Hi guys, I'm new here, my name is Thomas, friends they call me Johhny B or Johny Bravo. I'm living in Poland, so hello again. I am also looking these shoes from time when I saw at the Star Wars movies and Commando with Arnold. Arnold early in the film also wears the same shoes, but the soles in his boots are in canvas color on his boots. I see these shoes also they were produced by Inter company and then by Hi - Tec company. So, about molds to perform the soles, maybe can write directly to Hi-Tec company and ask about this old forms to perform soles, or ask their or do not produce the series specifically for the forum bikerscout .net. What do you think fellas? glad to be here Sorry for my weak english. Thank you!
bwattsup Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I'm pretty positive that was attempted long ago Thomas. If memory serves me correctly, they weren't able to find the original blueprints for those soles, and thus couldn't help out. I know I read a BSN discussion about it years ago. 1
01Hawk Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 I think making a reproduction sole would be tough unless it was for a set already existing boot. I did see that boot resoling companies make a front section and a rear section (heel). So maybe trying to making 2pieces would work? This pair is just sitting next to my Boba Fett boots ( which I need to dye white) for now. I will prob make it a fall/winter project.
01Hawk Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 But In case this helps here are some quick measurement pics - note the first skinny one on the outside has a slight taper - outside left sole Outside left sole again Back of heel Inside of left heel- not the same as outside
01Hawk Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 I am using a Singer cloth measuring tape so it isn't exactly a scientific scale
01Hawk Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 Inside of left front Front center Kinda center toward the inside of toe Left outer Left outer side 1
bwattsup Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 THANK YOU HOWARD!!!!!! You've done an amazing service to the community on this one. Love the Hi-Res shots. Is there anyway you can take a picture with the tape going from top to bottom on the front and back soles? I've got a great idea in mind for making soles. I'm going to PM you with some details.
01Hawk Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 No problem! Hope they help even with just the carving of the soles. Here is the back center and front center/media/769935E0-C08B-4E57-BF69-68E3731780F9.jpg.html][/url]
01Hawk Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 I will see if I can pick up a reasonably priced and accurate digital caliper this weekend To get some accurate measurements as needed.
bwattsup Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Sweeeeeeeet! I thought they had the little lip around the top, but you couldn't tell for sure previously.
01Hawk Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 Yea there is a small lip and even more little cutouts
bwattsup Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Can you take some pictures of the bottoms of the soles and the arch area as well? You've been generous enough as is. I hate asking for more.
