FIBERGLASS: MLC vs. NI

Recommended Posts

MLC's are very nice, well made helmets. Ive had a couple in my scout journeys and the only reason i dont have one now is i have an ABS LW helmet.

From what i understand the NI is a little bigger ,and it has a slighty more accurate look to me, but ive never owned one or saw one in person so hopefully someone else will chime in about those.

If you do a forum search for "NI Bucket" you'll get quite a few threads discussing the NI and some good comparison pics. Make sure you use quotation marks in the search bar, or else it won't let you search for two character words.

It's a decent enough looking lid, but it doesn't seem like a lot of troops use them for whatever reason. Personally, I don't like the way the visor joins the face plate but that's nit-pickey :)

I own an MLC V3 and the only things I needed to buy was a more accurate snout, I got from DVH, I got decals and a visor lens from trooperbay and authentic 3M bolts, you can only use the round parts tho and put them over the bolts the helmet comes with because the 3M bolts are far too short.

Still not clear as to whether the MLC comes with a visor or not. Maybe it depends on where you get it from? I contacted MLC by e-mail and he stated "we don't provide any lenses/visors due to the ff." Not sure if its a language issue with the word "visor". Has anybody who purchased directly from MLC have the visor included? I'll send MC an e-mail and see what they say about the visor being included....

It may be an issue with terminology. Some people refer to the part that is like the bill of a hat at the visor I think. I would refer to it as the black/green lense and see if that helps. I would think it should come with one

My interpretation is that it definitely doesn't come with the lens. And I get that. But, I'm not sure about the visor. I read on one website that it doesn't come with a visor. I wrote MLC for clarification and he wrote back that it doesn't come with a "lens/visor". To me the visor ought to be an integral part of the helmet but the website entry (thedentedhelmet.com) and the manufacturer's comment in his e-mail leave me to wonder. I think it may be a misunderstanding of the language/terminology. Surely, if it didn't come with a major component of the helmet, like the visor, it seems to me that folks on this forum would have mentioned that. Right?

I think it would have a visor for a couple reasons: 1-as you said, it's an important part of the helmet, and 2-their use of "lens/visor", specifically the "/". If it did not include what *we* interpret as the visor, it would read "lens OR visor". I think a lot of people call the lens the visor, judging by my browsing of the forums. That's probably what happened.

I agree. I think my confusion is a result the different interpretation of the terminology "lens/visor" that MLC used. To me, the term lens has a completely different meaning than visor and don't see how the two would be used interchangeably except, maybe, for someone communicating in English as a second language! Having said all that, I've got to believe it comes with what most of us would call a "visor"
