Cracked Tank- Removal?

My tank has cracked at the lower rivet and I have a replacement. How do l remove the the black top and the tank as they both seem to be glued on? (tank is glued to back at top)

Obvious answer is glue solvent but some of those melt plastic. I was thinking of using a jigsaw but I'm not sure if I can angle it right. I was also thinking to just glue the crack back together.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

If you used E-6000 you might be able to go SLOW and LOW with some heat and use a thin spatula or something like a .016 guitar string to work your way under the topper.

I had to take off my thermal det endcaps in order to attach my Chef clips when they came in and this method worked (granted, it wasn't a large area slathered with glue). But again, SLOW and LOW heat to prevent distorting the tank, topper, or back armor. I used my wife's hair dryer on the lowest heat setting.

EDIT: rereading your post, it sounds like the tank was assembled when you got it? So you might not know what type of glue was used?

It was the ready made KS kit.

The crack was already there when I got it, but it was only small, about 2 inches at most. :(

Now its about halfway up the middle in a vertical line. :( :( :(

Probably cracked because of the curved tank and back piece are at different angles. The rivet is bent in a curve, is this normal?

If the old tank is trash, i would just cut the tank off with the dremel cutting wheel leaving about an inch or so on the part attached to the back then you can get to it easier. Worse case cut it again as close as possible and then take a dremel sanding drum and grind most of whats left of it off, the new tank will cover whatever is left.

That said, since KS assembled it, it may be stuck on with carpet tape, or something similar....and if thats the case something like goo gone adhesive remover would likey work using the method stasz mentioned. or combining the 2 methods by cutting the bulk of the tsankl off and then using the adhesive remover. Just make sure its not a harsh chemical one that would damage the plastic. Goo gone is safe on plastic.
