kayelbe
Thought I'd go ahead and post my build progress, such that it is. Completed: Gloves --Wampawear Yes, order a size up from what you think you should, although I guess the liner could be removed for comfort and fit. Mine fit perfect with the liner. Coveralls Tailoring complete; Mandarin collar, riding patches/elastic added. Helmet Altmann received 9/11. Excellent quality, and it fits perfect! Trooperbay decals, DVH Snout, 3M bolts added. Added a hard hat liner (WAY easier than I thought it would be). Blaster -- DVH In hand and looks pretty good! Boots went with DIY and the KMart boots mentioned in the boot forum. Soft Parts Flight suit, vest, and cumberbund/cod/pouches all DIY and DONE! Still working on: Armor SC. Still working on TD and Holster.
war009
Looking forward to seeing this build....and probably hitting you up for pointers
stasz
Ya hit the ground running! You could pull pockets off and do your collar mod no sweat without the armor, but sizing the riding patch helps if you've got your knees, and sizing the vest helps if you've got your chest armor. I took in the sleeves and legs on my RedKap a bit, and added stirrups to keep the legs from poofing out over my boots. Keep us posted! stasz
If you haven't yet, get ahold of theisaac. He's in your Garrison and did a killer job on his Scout.
kayelbe
I've already reached out to Isaac, and yes he did a great job on his scout! I want to get with a couple scouts and check out their buckets--missed my opportunity at the Diamondbacks SW night when the wife decided we should go to California instead. kayelbe
Yep. The pics are right out of the box. Probably needs some more trimming.
kayelbe
Well, received my red Kap coveralls a week or so ago. Threw them in the wash and went to try them on this morning to figure out how much I need to take in.... Definitely should have read up on sizing issues! I'm 5'9" and wear coveralls for my job, so went with 42R--big mistake! Like others have said, I had to hunch over just to zip up. VERY tight in the crotch. Just ordered a 42L, but going to set me back on time since I don't want to do the other soft parts until I have the flight suit finished. On another note, went ahead and bought the speed glass kit and it came in yesterday...black bolt covers were a surprise. wookieevader
That was the same thing i noticed when i ordered the speedglas kit too and i was expecting the grey ones Sent from my LGLS990 using Tapatalk
kayelbe
Small update in first post. Between the stuff the wife wants done around the house and a project I volunteered to do for my oldest daughter's baby shower, I haven't had much time. Need to spend the next couple of days repairing my Sandy for a Make a Wish event on sunday, so might not get much done. Still waiting for a couple hard pieces and going to tackle the soft parts myself after a few good sewing lessons from my daughter and mother in law. Nexous
Doing the soft parts first is definitely the smarter thing to do, I ended up doing some small alterations on my soft parts to accommodate the armor, such as sewn in velcro to help keep things in place
kayelbe
Altmann bucket received! No padding or hardhat liner installed yet, but here's a pic taken right after I opened the box!
kayelbe
After looking over the helmet, I'm not sure what needs to be modified for Lancer. The bolt covers might be a little thick, but they are flat and look to be the right diameter and color... The decal on the nose is actually multiple pieces--the grey arc with black strips--have the Trooperbay replacement set, so no big deal. The fish hook looks okay, but I'm no expert. This thing fits just like I had hoped! I have a 24 inch noggin, and I was worried that my chin would show but it doesn't. Very satisfied!
Griffin-X
Add a hard hat liner, 3M bolt covers, and TB decals. You'll be good to go.
kayelbe
OK, got some time to sit down at the sewing machine. I tailored my flight suit some. In this pic, I haven't hemmed the sleeves/legs or added the mandarin. How is the fit? And here's with the collar and my bucket: Something weird with my phone's camera is making it look grainy. Been trying to figure that out for an hour...
Nexous
You can definitely afford to trim around the hands & feet area as boots and gloves will cover them wouldn't want to burn yourself alive with all the soft parts.... other than that it looks nice and snug
kayelbe
Finally got to work on my coveralls. Finished the cuffs and added the riding patches/elastic. Ignore the chalk marks, I haven't washed these yet... Have the Make-A-Wish Walk for Wishes this weekend, hopefully I can get some more time to start my vest. Would it be a good idea to assemble the chest/back before doing the vest? Or, would it matter since the bund could/would cover the vest if it were too long? In other words, what should I do next? wookieevader
I would assemble the front and back armor and add the shoulder bells to get a idea where the sleeves of the vest need to stop Sent from my LGLS990 using Tapatalk
kayelbe
Ok, that's what I was thinking, Jim. This build is way different than a TK/TD. Really only two layers with those.
kayelbe
Been a while since I updated. I made a bund/cod and finished most of the armor pieces. I pulled my boots out of the closet and went back to work on them. Below is the result of the first stretch. Followed the tutorial, but used a heat gun. Had I been working on these in the summer, putting them in the car in the Arizona heat would have been enough.
