ferra Posted January 1, 2016 Author Posted January 1, 2016 First test fit of the straps looks good: So this made me think I have to finish the weathering to seal the paint and get the straps done...
ferra Posted January 1, 2016 Author Posted January 1, 2016 So, lets do some weathering! I´m starting with some silver(but not shiny) scratches like the CRL requests: What other weathering do you suggest?
ferra Posted January 1, 2016 Author Posted January 1, 2016 What other type of wathering should a I do? 1. Small film of spray(black and brown) to simulate dirt + soot? 2. Brown or black applied with brush then cleaned off with rags?
Rwg86 Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Looks great so far Luis! I'm glad you posted the previous question since I was wondering the same thing, although I won't be doing the paint job on mine.
Rezboy Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 I used a water color of black and brown then sponged it on about 3 times to get my weathering look. It will darken your armor, so it's really up to you. You can look at my pics under my build to see.
ferra Posted January 3, 2016 Author Posted January 3, 2016 Hey Michael, went with a thin spray of brown so as to not make it so dark. Got some plates finished and sealed today: Also gave a little weathering on the boots: Straps drying on one of the leg pieces:
ferra Posted January 4, 2016 Author Posted January 4, 2016 So what do you think, should I apply the decals+slightly weather with a thin film of brown spray then seal?
ferra Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 So, the sheet that comes with the kit is not full of decals, it´s stencils. We have to paint the markings on the helmet, how did I miss that in all the other posts I've read? ...now I gotta do the front... :shock2: :shock2: :shock2:
ferra Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 Finished the front stencils, weathered and sealed Pics with and withour flash:
Rwg86 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 I love the weathering job that you did on the blaster pock-marks on the helmet! Looks really well done. Unfortunately my project is on hiatus for awhile. Thankfully you're giving me great ideas!
ferra Posted January 7, 2016 Author Posted January 7, 2016 Its done with the Tamyia weathering kits, the "carbon scoring" looks so nice i´m gonna plant one or two blaster rounds on the chest...
ferra Posted January 12, 2016 Author Posted January 12, 2016 So, I got the chest plate plate ready for the final weathering, I´ll see about matching it with the back in two days and sealing them both: (it´s actually a little darker than it looks on the screen) And finished weathering the gloves:
Aaron_Ravenheart Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Wow.. those blasts are VERY nicely done. I could actually believe they're real impacts. When i get started on my own, i will try to do as you did, but i doubt it'll be just as good ;-)
ferra Posted March 16, 2016 Author Posted March 16, 2016 Got told the spots weren´t good and as everything was already sealed I couldn´t change any of it. So it was start over time. I´m on it again now that the good weather is coming, so keep an eye out for regular updates
ferra Posted March 18, 2016 Author Posted March 18, 2016 It´s gonna look darker/more subdued after sealing(I remember the distinct difference with the first paintjob) so what do you think? More spots(greens or browns)? OK like this?
ferra Posted March 18, 2016 Author Posted March 18, 2016 Are the spots too rounded? Should they be more geometric shaped?
Bally Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 To be honest I'd say less geometrical/symmetrical if anything. I'd be aiming for no two looking the same and definitely less rounding of the edges. But I haven't done mine yet, only had to cam actual field gear. This is what I'm aiming for.
comm tech Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Way too Rounded and sharp and Way too symmetrical Look at the paint jobs of other WIP's and the CRL's. I had to repaint mine 4 times before I got what I was looking for.
ferra Posted March 20, 2016 Author Posted March 20, 2016 Still need to enlarge some of the spots but I think we got a winner here, Dan Trippler's sponge method is easy and looks good:
ferra Posted March 20, 2016 Author Posted March 20, 2016 Pretty fast results compared with the old ways:
ferra Posted March 21, 2016 Author Posted March 21, 2016 Still using the bath sponge i got to do the pouches today, it´s nice to see the different types of spots we can do more solid or more faded...
