Maybe I'm over thinking this but the belt has me stumped and it doesnt help that I keep seeing posts warning of keeping the side buckets short. Is there a good go to walk thru template of how to make the belt someone can direct me to ?

Search for Pandatrooper's build thread. It contains everything you ever wanted to know :-)

Def what Patrik said. Terry has an awesome build thread with a lot of tips and tricks.

Yup, you're over thinking it. :) just cut the straps so that the hip armor rests on the side of your hips. Many people have them hanging on the side of their thighs and that's too low.

The straps can also be fed through the buckles, they don't need to function.

Here's my build thread where I construct the belt.

thank you everyone- I think I am just over thinking a lot of this. I want to get this done but with my aunt being placed on hospice and money getting tight all I hear in my head is "do it right so you don't mess up and have to buy new parts" so I then freeze and stop working which doesn't help either, I DO APPRECIATE every one of your replies- thank you !

The belt confounded me as well. It was actually the last piece I worked on because I was nervous about it. Just take your time, and definitely reference Panda's thread.

I have my thigh boxes attached to the straps with snaps and snap plates. Definitely over-engineered it. The straps can pass right through the boxes.

Only real issue I had was my hip boxes weren't even. Took em up and now I'm good. I too was over thinking it.

One thing I've noticed but never see mentioned: the middle of the belt boxes appears to be the same height as half way up the curved stitching on the codpiece.

I think I've got mine the right height, but they are secured with velcro for instant adjustability!
