CFLStarWarsDad
I know that amongst most every hobby there are "economy" "regular" " expensive" and "over the top" pricing that comes along ... Im reading on a memorabilia site that they are taking "preorders" for a helmet to be made from "EFX master patterns" = the preorder price is $700 -- would you describe this pricepoint as economy, expensive, or over the top? Would a helment of this pricepoint be even appropriate for trooping? or something to be considered "dress whites" only for special occasions? Oberkisstillalive
The price I would say is over the top and that version is made of fiberglass. My head is 23" around and when I tried the EFX on it got stuck on my head but I was able to put it on and take it off with some elbow grease (if I got a haircut it would be no problem). The problem is that the original helmets are made from abs plastic which is flexible to some extent so bigger heads could still somewhat squeeze in, but when you are dealing with fiberglass it is as flexible as a rock so if it does not fit on your head when putting it on, it will never fit. Once I got it on however it was very comfortable and lightweight which is a plus. So is it practical for trooping? I would say yes given that your head can fit when putting it on and -$700 isn't going to leave you eating ramen noodles for the next two months. Otherwise NO, it isn't. (DISCLAIMER: I have not trooped before so I am only going off of what I have heard from others about wearing a helmet while trooping) EDIT: The price point and design is aimed more towards collectors and people who will keep it in a glass case but that won't stop people from trooping in it. Yes the EFX master patterns are castings off of the original molds that created the helmets seen in the movie (maybe explaining the very high price) It is a very beautiful helmet and deserves the 'screen accurate' title for its shape but not for the materials.
Nexous
That's a bit much for me personally, but understand people who would pay that much for a fully assembled high quality collector's item... but I wouldn't buy that with trooping in mind. You'll want something you can modify and that'll feel comfortable for trooping.
Chex
If you have the money to spend and you want to buy it and use it for trooping, then you can def do that. No reason why it wouldn't be an approvable helmet, given it's lineage.
Stroker
RS also has a very nice scout helmet. Full abs.
CFLStarWarsDad
RS also has a very nice scout helmet. Full abs. I would love to think that you're saying if I buy a RS helmet it will help my midsection develop a six-pack overnight, but I believe you may be inferring its full plastic and not fiberglass... lol Nicholas

jkno
The EFX Legend helmet is supposed to be ABS, only the LE will be fiberglass. When this will happen though is another story... Besides that they are both more like collector's items and less adequate for trooping. RS makes a helmet just as accurate from a production helmet.
