Who Is A Good Helmet Maker?

Recommended Posts

The best bucket I can suggest is Studio Creations

Are there any blaring issues with KS buckets? (other than the grey snout piece being inaccurate) I am getting very close to purchasing.

Nevermind... I just read the thread about KS helmet issues. probably won't go that route.

Asking what the best helmet is, is like asking which car is the best. There are so many variables.

Are you trooping or showing? Build or pre built? Screen accurate or basic shape? Large or small head? Budget or deep pockets?

The list goes on...

I would check on Ebay as well, if you're looking for a finished scout helmet. Or when your post count goes past 10, you'll have access to the sale section of the boards, and just keep an eye out for people selling their bucket.

What about those of us with larger heads? Does the studio creations or anyone else a good recommendation for creating a customized large helmet for people like me?

Sorry to hijack but this issue is of great interest to me..

SC states there bucket is "iffy" for XL heads - Whats considered a XL head? Someone who wears hat sizes larger than say 7 1/2?

I would love to get a thread going that compares buckets to fitted baseball cap size. I asked that question myself and I see it fairly often.

I haven't had the opportunity to try on a wide variety of buckets (just my KS, an SC, and an MLC - the"Big 3" I suppose) but they're always padded out for their owners so it's skewed.

FWIW: I wear a 7 1/4 and my KS is lightly padded around the back and the inside top (approx 1" thick) and it feels great and sits nice. The SC was small on me, where my chin would sick way out underneath.

Granted that similar to shoes, fitted hats do seem to have some variation on size. I've had 7 1/2's that fit right and others that fit a little on the tight side.

I agree with you in that having a reference based on hat sizes would be awesome. It seems like a pretty simple concept but I have no idea if it would be realistic.

Thanks for the info on the SC though. I have been considering an SC lid but may run into the same size issue as you. Depending on the source I wear either a 7 1/2 or 5/8 hat.

Thanks for the link Chef. I actually had a chance to look at it earlier so it did help a bit. Unfortunately as you have already stated its still has some gaps.

How does the Altmann compare in size to the CS or KS? Still looking through the threads but haven't found the information yet.
