Grov505th
Guys, I have been searching and reading about armor. The big question I have now is: which armor is better SC or MonCal? I was going to go with a SC, but I emailed MonCal and got a price list and saw that it's in the same ball park of SC. I know MonCal has a wait list and SC is faster turn around, but it could be a while before I can start working on the armor. I mean it could sit in a box for up to 6 months before I can get home and work on it. Just thought I would ask. Thanks
Stroker
It's gonna be 6 months plus wait on mc I just ordered shoulder bells and a belt from em and its a 5 month wait on that. Sc has about a 2 week turn around most of the time.
Nexous
From my experience with SC, the quality is good... the strapping sizing for most of the elastics as mentioned somewhere else on the boards aren't exactly to spec and will need to be changed for Lancer. Another complaint I've heard is the shoulder bells are a bit long, but that's something you could easily size and fix for your body-type. Never seen a MonCal in person to make any comparisons
Quinxx44
SC will always get my vote. MC is great, and very helpful (I just ordered a new bucket and belt) but the wait is very long. A full set will most likely have you waiting upwards of a year. SC is quick, equally helpful, and nice quality. They have some pulls which are a little soft, but nothing too major. Chex
MC is a great set of armor, but looks better on shorter people (5'10" and under) and I would say expect it to take a year to get. SC is great, easy to mod to fit you better, and Jeff's customer service is outstanding and quick.
Aig
I dont know SC but I can say that I changed only a few things for become Lancer with MonCal. Nothing big (other boots for example because of the sole but there is no need to order them). Cathy & Cal are very cooperative and gave me a quick feedback to all my questions, everytime. Assembly instructions are included, so I hadnt so many questions ...but dont forget...it isnt ready to wear...you still have work with it... My MonCal-Set is over 1 year old and yes, I had to wait several months for it. So I dont know if there is a new version released or if it is still the same as mine. Just a normal 501st approve worked wihtout any changes at the whole set (in my case). I am 185cm tall and the sizing is ok (I think). No one would say "buy this one" or "buy this one" and everyone is happy with his SC/MC-armor ...and now u are still confused...as before...maybe a little bit more
Dart
If you're not gonna work on the armour for a while, and you prefer the looks of the MC kit, go for it. I managed to get mine much faster (bought an unassembled kit from a member here) but it's nice stuff. You really can't go wrong either way. It's all down to how long you wanna wait.
Teiwaz
Be cautious with SC. My helmet was a bad pull, and I didn't know any better at the time. You can see the leading edges are different lengths. Makes the helmet very hard to close properly. SC agreed to replace it, but then stopped responding to emails. Multiple emails later and 2 months later, I doubt I'll hear from them again. I can't say if the other suppliers are better or worse, but whoever you buy from make sure you have someone who knows the gear to inspect it straight away and identify any faults. CFLStarWarsDad
MC is a great set of armor, but looks better on shorter people (5'10" and under) and I would say expect it to take a year to get. SC is great, easy to mod to fit you better, and Jeff's customer service is outstanding and quick. To clarify - are you stating that I might have more success outfitting with MC than SC if I am 5'4 ? This would be welcomed insight and help me to avoid any additional frustration I may have other than the obvious. lol Nicholas
Grov505th
Thanks for all the info Guys. I am 5' 9 on a bad day and 5' 10 on a good day. MonCal is saying that they fixed the shoulder bells and it looks like the parts kit comes with the correct size and color webbing. Guess I am going to have to do some more research. She who holds the purse strings, told me not to just go off and buy the first thing that caught my eye.... John
BikerScoutDawn
I am only 5'3 but bigger and love my sc kit. I can tell you right now Jeff is FANTASTIC to work with at SC and if I ever need anything again -which I am sure I will- I will only get it from Jeff. Except better detonator clips - those I need to find from someone better. But I love my SC kit and bucket.
stasz
I sent Jeff at SC a picture of my rig after I was approved and I think he was a excited as I was. He's a good dude. Dawn, keep an eye on the trade forum. Chef does a really nice laser cut det clip. I finally had a chance to put mine on for the right look, but I still have the plastic SC clips (behind the det) for extra security.
