tidalforce
Well, I am finally going to try my hand at building a costume. I have never done this before so I prostrate myself before you all and beg for your guidance. Below is where I plan on sourcing my parts. For reference I’m 5’9†165lbs and wear a small/medium hat. Helmet-SC Armour-SC Bund,pouches,boots-Marcel Gloves-Wampa Flightsuit-RedKap and have a local tailor square me away (or someone on the forums?) Vest- <any suggestions> Blaster- <any suggestions> What are the little things that I am forgetting? I saw a thread about headbands (http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=10270). Should I go this route or just glue in some foam? What about chinstraps? Necessary? Nice to have? Saggy boots? Should I glue in some reinforcement pieces at the top? Magnets to keep the blaster secure? Also, what tools will I need? I have basic home maintenance stuff (no heat guns or rivet guns, etc) As always, thank you for your advice and guidance. -Jeff
Nexous
You're roughly my size so the SC Armor / Helmet should fit well. This was my first build too, so I'll try to give some advice... but maybe other can correct me and/or chime in too The helmet from SC should come w/ "Army Helmet" padding, try those out first and if it doesn't fit too well then go ahead with the headband if you feel that it's necessary. I took out the back padding and it still fits me snug w/ glasses on! Tool-wise, I'd recommend grabbing an Xacto Knife, Coping Saw, Rivet Gun, Heat Gun, Clamps, and E6000 / Zapagap. Bubonos
All resources you listed were the ones I used. Soft parts I have a garrison friend but you can find those for sale on this forum. Boots were fun to make and for answers on sagging look at a recent post I made and the pros answered my issue. Blaster, here as well. I don't have one but you van find it here. Chin strap helps when you lift your visor. Glue ez6000. Sc you'll have to cut the lens hole out so good knife and jack saw is what I used. For rivets you need a gun. There are some tricks but it maybe in poor taste to mention those. Lets just say some of my garrison experts taught me some shortcuts. For me I Velcro everything!!! Heavy duty Velcro stitched on suit for all pads and stick on inside arm and knee pads. I'm slender and my weight goes up and down so I sometimes have cummerbund slippage, I fixes that with Velcro. Boot slipping, Velcro. That stuff rules!!!!! Alot of people paint the armor, I didn't and find its easier to beat up that way. I like a natural weathering. Tks are shiny, scouts get down and dirty. I found the boots at WalMart and as I said had a blast making them. And as mentioned by Nexous, the sc padding is fine for me. I'll post you a pic of how i placed it and it feels and fits great. stasz
I highly recommend building your boots using the tutorial (though Marcel's are fantastic). This was my first costume, and the boots were the first bit I tackled. I really enjoyed it, and they came out surprisingly well for just going for it. There's a few good tuts for vests and lots of threads on flight suit mod if you have sewing chops or are willing to learn the rudiments. I'm all about the snaps (or poppers) vs. velcro, though I haven't tried it for my boots. I have snap plates in my biceps, forearms and knees. It took some work to line up the female snap on my suit, but I'm really happy with the result. I have yet to magnetize my blaster/holster since I pretty much always hold it but it's on the to-do list. Check the weapon forum for blasters. Lots of good makers. A rivet gun is a must. Home depot. $10. Other than that, a utility knife and / or lexan scissors, a drill, sand paper, e6000 glue, patience and time. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the chin chip is required for basic or Lancer clearance. There's no definitive on screen shot of one. Good luck with your build! Bubonos
Chin cup not required but I found at least a strap helps when you keep your visor up. Comic con was the first event I could keep it up alot and the bucket would fall forward over my eyes. Added a strap and it sits straight until a kid grabs it or an idiot teen slaps my bucket.

Nexous
Thanks for all the great advice. I plan on placing my orders in the next week or so. Can't wait to start the build. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Good deal! If you're going with the SC, Jeff (the guy that runs it) is a great person to work with, I needed some extra decals and he hooked it up at no cost and he's also very cordial with responses, i.e I ordered another TD Box & boot holster last weekend and got them Friday
