matt8199
Ok, so I have everything done EXCEPT attatching the holster. I have the Rivets (Stanley 1/4") and also the Rivet Tool (from Home Depot). I viewed some of the tutorials on here, but it still makes me nervous to try it myself. There's all this extra stuff about adding more material and velcro on the inside... a whole lot more than I thought and I'm not sure I can do this myself now without messing up somehow. I can't afford new boots or wait for another holster. I need this done by Saturday. I planned to do it today or tommorow. I don't even know if I have a drill bit to make the hoiles. They should have been drilled already.
Darth Voorhees
Dont panic! Its not that hard! If you dont have a drill, you can make the holes with an x-acto knife by twisting it in the same spot to make a hole. You dont need velcro or anything except some scrap plastic at the most. Use it to put on the inside of the boot between the material and the washer you use as a backing plate for the rivet. Cut a square larger than the rivet area (about an inch by an inch or so) to prevent it from pulling through. Thats all you really need to do. The velcro would be to keep your boot from sagging from the weight of the blaster if you have a heavier one. But it isnt NEEDED...especially if you hold your blaster most of the time.
matt8199
Also, the Rivets look WAY too long. Don't they stick out too far inside your boot?!? I was told 1/4" was correct size. I'm confused now man. I don't want to attempt it if I'm not 100%.
matt8199
I didn't understand how rivets worked, then I watched a quick you tube video (thank god for you-tube, LOL). Now I know the long metal rod part comes off. LOL. I think I have it figured out now - I'm following some tutorials on here. I'm just slightly afraid of attempting it myself, but I'm going to try and practice on something else similar and then have a go at it. Dart
I'm not totally sure about that sizing. I know that I used 1/8" rivets for my boots and other parts. (1/8" referring to the hole size, not the outer edges of the rivet).
Chex
Def go with the 1/8 rivets on the boot. Also when you drill your holes, don't be too close to the edge. Look at pictures of other scouts boots and see where they have their holes drilled. You can do it, it's not that hard!
