Kelsey Posted April 20, 2015 Share Posted April 20, 2015 Hello. I was about to start my cummerbund when I got stuck with a measurement/fitting conundrum. The tutorial said to measure your hips and chest just below the armor plate and take the wider of the two. Well I am an hourglass shape with a chest of 30" and hips 36". If I make it a square piece of 36", the top of the cummerbund will be very very bunched with 6 extra inches at the top. I imagine that would look awful. Can I make my cummerbund a trapezoid? Southscout Posted April 20, 2015 Share Posted April 20, 2015 I would cut it so that the closure on the back is straight down, and so nothing shows below the belt. It might a bit funny shaped, but as long as it looks the part it should be OK. Wrap some fabric around you and just mark how it would look. Dart Posted April 20, 2015 Share Posted April 20, 2015 To echo what Patrik mentioned, be sure that the 'bund doesn't extend past the bottom of the belt. The best way I've figured to measure the 'bund is to sit down and measure from the top of the hip bone (ideally where the belt sits) and then taper it to fit you. If you already have your armour, assemble your belt and see where it sits on your hips when you sit. Just make sure that the back has the 2" velcro strip right in the middle and going straight up and down. It really doesn't need to be square but it does need to fit you and not look baggy or otherwise sloppy. Also, make sure you give some allowance for the batting as that can affect your measurements. I just wanted to make sure it's ok if the bund fits me a bit better, otherwise it would look loose and sloppy on me. Thanks! I'll make sure to post a pic after. With 6" difference it will get a point at the bottom, not an issue for male troopers who usually are bigger at the top, as the point is then hidden by the back armour Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Chunk Posted April 21, 2015 Share Posted April 21, 2015 The cumberbund will stop just under your breast, So your hourglass figure will not come into play. I think I read some where your around 5'6-5'7ish. My wife is 5'7 & has 36DD, flat tummy & lil toosh. The bund sits just above the hip bone & just under her breast. On my wife it's about 11" tall. Im 5'8 & my bund is 13" So there is no need to make a trapazoid bund. When wearing it should sit on the top of the hips with the bottom hidden by the belt. the top will be even with the bottom of the chest/back armor. I thought the belt sat on the hips, not above them, so I thought the bottom of the bund will be on my hips. I have a very short back. The bottom of my ribs is only an inch above the tip of my hips; I'm all leg (did major sewing adjustments to my coveralls!)
