Rubber Boots?

I see everyone using steel toe construction boots and modifying the crap out of them. Is there a reason for this? I live on the wetcoast (west coast) where rubberboots are stylish in the winter. It's common to own crazy wonderful high end designer rubber boots here. Would I be remiss to use and slightly modify white rubber boots with tan soles? Just curious if there's a reason no one goes this route, as I'm still in research mode, anxious to start ordering and assembling.

I'm going to guess because rubber rain boots arent screen accurate

Pretty sure no rainboots will work but hey maybe there's a chance. Post up some photos if you see them. Although making the boots was some of the most fun in the build and when you explain it to people they're like "you made those??" It's a nice feeling of accomplishment.

Rubber boots are not screen accurate. I got some with my costume when I bought it from a former member. They are heavy, cumbersome, and you sweat a lot during summer months. Your feet are cold in winter events. Just go with the ones shown on the boards. Take it from someone with experience.

Years ago white rain boots with tan soles were acceptable in the legion. Now they are not, because they are not accurate, and honestly they look silly.

 

The boots we make from the base workboot, are made like the screen used boots were, and are 1000 times more accurate. They are also fairly easy to do, and much more comfortable.

 

That said, if your not going for legion clearance, you can do whatever you'd like

Thanks so much! I was just curious, as it seemed so much easier. I'm no stranger to making special boot covers, so I'm not intimidated. And since it sounds better and more fun, I'm happy to try!

There is a huge difference between making something that will "pass" and what you want to wear while walking in a 10k parade. The boots and other parts of costumes are made to survive years of trooping.

 

Remember we are re-creating items that only needed to last a few weeks for filming a movie shot in the 80's. They pulled it off, but those original costumes would have a hard time holding up to what we (and you shortly) put them through.

As said rubber boots will be no good sorry, I also would suggest you stay away from steel toe capped boots. Generally they are too round on the tie and are very hard to pin into.

Make sure you pick a boot with a one colour sole and no visible stitching
