DarthShlomo
I figured it was time to actually start a WIP thread. My flight suit is a modified Red Kap coverall. I completely deconstructed the collar, shortened it, and added the extra material on. The riding patch and mud flap is actual suede since I am building towards Lancer standards and the legs were taken in.
DarthShlomo
The pouches were constructed with a heavy trigger material using the pattern here on BSN.
DarthShlomo
For my boots, I started with a pair of Himalayans work boots. They were the first ones I found with a single color sole. I notched them all the way around to look more similar to the originals. I am currently using the tutorial in the boot section to make them into sexy white go-go boots.

DarthShlomo
Starting to look like a boot! I am thinking it will look better once I break them in and do some weathering. Now on to the left side.
stasz
Magnets as clamps. Great move! I learned that trick repairing guitars and violins.
DarthShlomo
The measurements for the calf section were off by 2" on my first attempt so I ripped it apart and remade it. I like the new version much better.
DarthShlomo
Boots are done. At least I think so. I'm sure I forgot some super important part.
stasz
Wheels, man. Wheels. They look sharp! Was it easy cutting on the soles? The color looks great. Nice job.
DarthShlomo
Wheels, man. Wheels. They look sharp! Was it easy cutting on the soles? The color looks great. Nice job. Thanks. The first cut didn't go so well. I made a few rookie mistakes. I didn't use a fresh Exacto blade as well as not using the correct blade. I tried making the cuts into the rubber and then see-sawing a regular blade into the rubber to remove the unwanted portion. This looked like bantha poodoo. Once I quit being lazy and got out the chisel tip blade for the Exacto it was like buttah. I had my marks on the soles where I wanted to cut. And I inserted the chisel tip blade into the sole. Then, with the blade still in the boot, I cut down with a second Exacto and the little bit just popped right out. Once I figured out what I was doing, I had both boots done during an episode of Archer.
stasz
Archer yes. All day. Yeah. I had to figure out the push + pop method too. I bet everybody's first pair has one sketchy boot and one really good one I have enough vinyl left over that I want to do another, better pair and I think I'll use these base boots. You shared the link earlier. Thanks!

DarthShlomo
Got my armor today. Thanks Chex.
DarthShlomo
You can see in the previous pic that the armor is yellowing pretty bad. One of the reasons I got such a good deal on it. So I did some research and applied 12% hydrogen peroxide cream and left it in the sun for about four hours. And the yellowing is gone! DarthShlomo
In the workshop today to hopefully get a bunch of stuff done on my scout. First up, I made new T-straps for my shoulders. Next up, the vest. I made one already but it was not to my liking. Hopefully take 2 will be better.
stasz
I love the straps incorporated into the bridge covers. Super slick!
DarthShlomo
I made progress on the vest this evening. I made it snug. I just need to finish the bottom edge. And maybe shed a few pounds. And with armor. I still need to secure the shoulder bells. They will sit better when I do.

stasz
I used a regular t shirt and a tutorial from... I can't remember who it's on the boards somewhere. But I didn't get those raglan style sleeves like yours. It looks really good, brother!
DarthShlomo
I know the tutorial you are talking about. I tried that first. But I hate working with a jersey knit material and it did not come out looking good to me so I scrapped it.
