Ammonites
And wondering how the guy before me EVER got this thing approved! Still have a couple pieces of this armor needing to be replaced. I have since gotten my TB number, thankfully, and am continuing to update. http://alpinegarrison.com/summit_media.php?media_id=24996 http://alpinegarrison.com/summit_media.php?media_id=22081
BikerScout007
The scout used to be the wild west of costumes. Glad standards have been been raised
stasz
Wow! I remember reading somewhere that the Scout is "no longer a costume that someone's brother in law builds for them over the weekend"
Chunk
I remeber seeing my 1st Scout at San Diego Comic Con around 2005. I took notice of the white rubber boots & thought Ok. Then I saw another Scout at Celebration V & thought what the heck is that on his butt & theighs. Thats when I dove into the research & found all the new "upgrades" to the costume.

Ammonites
Yep, I first got it and thought this was the greatest thing ever. I got disappointed when using couldn't get into the Legion with it, but I was young and inexperienced. Now, I am working on all the upgrades to make it better. Even though approved, I want to make t the best I can. Plus those rubber boots were cumbersome. I remember how sweaty I got in those. Tank and backpack were a solid piece, I had just any old type of leather gloves an an unmodified Rubies.
Smiling Fox
My first troop with some older scouts really was a shock. Some of them looked awful. I'm talking rubies helmets, old, black tactical uniforms under the armor, belts worn over bellies, rubber boots, you name it. When I asked them about them doing upgrades they just looked at me like I'd killed their dog. I tell people this is one of the toughest and most expensive costumes you can build. Even after getting two other costumes and joining the Rebel Legion, my scout is still my proudest accomplishment and most favored of five costumes.

Ammonites
Yeah, I all but tore the original cummerbund apart. Had to add the ribs, pockets of pouches were held closed with snaps, pouches were on wrong, no Velcro on back (bunching of the rear on the bund was stitched), the strap between the legs was loose... Until recently I wanted to keep as much as I could of the original. Looking back, it probably would have been easier just at the beginning to make a new one. Back then, I was going for minimum requirements on this. Looking back I see just how bad it was... Well, live and learn.
Bubonos
Smiling fix said it! We have am old scout in my garrison and his costume isn't that great. For the first scout I saw, the grey under suit and rubber boots looked ok until I saw a lancer. Then i built my scout to previous specs and last troop I did with him I was asking if he planned to upgrade and like you said fox, the look he gave was sad! I felt like a jerk!!! He said he was the first scout in Louisiana and is proud of his costume. I couldn't argue. The things that are grandfathered in on my costume I plan to fix but not right away. Ammonites
Same here, Jeremy. I have bits that got grandfathered in and plan to fix it all eventually. During my recent troop, my CO asked if parts I had upgraded were accurate and I proudly said they were. Namely the cloth holding the front and back of the chest armor together. From the 501st CRL: The chest and back armor join together over the shoulder and the gap covered with a loop of white fabric.
