Ammonites
Okay, so I've gone on to a lot of forums with mostly questions and not much to offer. Well, after not finding many (okay haven't come across any) progression threads for cummerbunds, I have decided to start my own. My original one for getting into the 501st has been changed and modified so much, but I wanted something better. So, I decided to make a new one myself. After a couple practice ones made out of a white bed sheet (don't look too bad, I can get pics if anyone asks) I am making a full new one for real now. Fabric was measured out to 46 inches in length to make room for the overlap. I will be padding the entire thing so two layers are used. Cod piece with 2" elastic and badding for interior Turned out all right 1.25" spacing between the ribs on the front looked really good. Just need to wash the pencil marks off. *NOTE* I used seven stitches for six raised ribs. For more accuracy, and for Lancer status, it is only 5 ribs. Codpiece attached Stitching all the way around on the edges And the result looks more screen-accurate then folding over Using pins on the ribbing after the first results went awry but it turned out okay later 2" white Velcro attached Using a parachute clip instead of permanently attaching it. This'll make things easier for the bathroom breaks at least. Some other cords for the shoulder straps. These will be hidden by the flak vest. Black thread holding the elastic in place for the strap Front view Rear view Just need to get the pouches done now. I will post progression pics on those as well. I would love to hear thoughts on this, any feedback is welcome.
BikerScout007
My personal opinion, and this gets into the raging bund/cod debate -- but the bund should be shorter and the cod taller and wider But for what it is, it looks good, man!
Dart
Out of curiosity, what fabric did you use? Have you tried on your new 'bund with some chest armour? Just asking, because it looks like it could be just a bit too tall. Also, if you're going for a more accurate look, you might consider going to 6 stitched ribs instead of the 7 that you've put in this one.
4505Marcel
I'd say the cod could be wider at the top and you have too many stitches up the front of the bund, there really wants to be 6 giving 5 raised areas Pretty good attempt though well done
Ammonites
According to the guidelines, "Has 6 or 7 vertical stitch lines producing 5 or 6 raised ribs (troopers choice) of equal width stitched into the front between where two fabric pouches are connected." As for the being tall bit, I just got the pouches done and tried it out with my armor. I will get pics with it later. The other dimensions are the same as the one that got me clearance into the Legion.
M.J
Keith ....I love your photos thank you soo much for posting, this does help others on how to do the cummberbun. I'm now on my second (changed the to five rib). Many of the troopers have the 6 raised ribs this was before we could see the blue rays, once confirmed ribbing amount, I heard to give the older troopers no need to spend more money, but to let the new builds (troopers) punch out the revised 5 raised. That was what was said many moons ago. when the CRL was being rewritten. Well thats how I remembered it. Also the cod piece will drive you nuts when you realise its a little long in the back..you can see white I agree the bun is a tad tall....you will find it may be a tad extra hot with the extra height of padding. Ammonites
No big deal for lowering the bund, but it will be considered versed by the vest. Extra warmth would come in handy for the winter events though. Maybe make a warm and a cold weather one? Cod piece is a simple enough fix. Just checked the CRL and the 5 ribs is for Lancer status, but 501st qualifications say either one. I will edit the first post later. I will also be adding the pouch pictures today, along with comparison shots of my original and what was done with it, and complete costume pics. Currently have a Rubies helmet, but a KS is on the way. Have other upgrades needed for the armor but I can post that elsewhere.
Ammonites
Okay, finally got the internet running at home again. So, here's my progress on the pouches. Going with an off-white color. Why? Because I thought it looked cool. Following the pattern from this site, marked using a colored pencil. Cut the top of the pouch off and stitched the base. Then, stitched the front for more film-accuracy. Stitched together the pouch covers, then added them. Attaching them to the cummerbund using straps. Adding the VELCRO to the pouches, probably should have done this sooner. Note to self - Attach VELCRO to flaps before stitching them closed next time. It will be easier. Here's what it looks like all stitched together. And the final shots. A few things need to be upgraded, I know, but it's on my to-do list. Helmet is Rubies, a KS is en route. Dart
The bund seems a bit short on the sides. Is that just the way you're wearing it? Also, what's goin' on with the paint on the biceps? Also, you might consider upgrading your belt/hip boxes in the future. [/GML mode off]
Ammonites
Flak vest is overhanging a bit, that needs to be stitched up. Biceps are old, I will be getting those replaced. Belt will be replaced in the future too. Trust me, I know all the parts of my armor that need upgrades. Budget on upgrades this year was spent on a KS helmet.
BobaFiend
I like the suspender idea to keep the cummerbund up. Coming along!
Ammonites
So, after going to an actual event with the new cummerbund I found I need to make a few adjustments. The pouches sag a bit and need to be brought in a couple inches, maybe brought together just a bit. Some Velcro on the reverse side will keep it where it needs to be. Also, I really want to get my new helmet in. Forgot how heavy this one is. Plus it makes me look like I have no neck. https://fbcdn-photos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xfp1/v/t1.0-0/11067648_405563996270759_2952702737991219484_n.jpg?efg=eyJpIjoibCJ9&oh=d95b31773f050b3af32afe509176cd58&oe=5572433A&__gda__=1433378227_4779e0875e081d642173381484284bcd
