Guest Mikhailov
Well, I received my perfect boots today... but alas, I must send them back. I ordered some size 10.5 boots, but they're too tight in the toe area. At least amazon has a good return policy.
Chex
Please let us know how those boots work out for you when you get the right ones. Been wondring myself about those.
Guest Mikhailov
I should have a new pair on Wednesday or Thursday. So far, the soles seem like they're pretty close to the originals (compared to leather work boots), and should be pretty easy to cut notches into them. Guest Mikhailov
Update! I've received a pair of the boots and they fit now! The only real downside to these boots is that darned logo on the heel. This was my attempt at removing most of it And after an hour or so of work this is how the heel turned out It's pretty rough in a lot of ways, but I'm pretty happy with how it's turned out so far. I was scared as hell that I'd ruin the whole thing altogether. I should have payed more attention in shop class...
Chunk
Looks good! Can't wait to see the finished boots.
stasz
Nice! I might have to snag a pair of those. I have enough vinyl left over from my initial boots to do another pair and want to try a more accurate base boot. May I ask what the cost was? Heel carving came out very nice as well! Junglie Scout
Hi David, top idea this! I bought a couple of pairs of these a year or two ago now to do the same thing, unfortunately I never got around to finishing them though. I did however show Marcel a picture of them (if he can remember that far back! . ) and he suggested that the toe end of the boot would need to sanded back or you end up like I did having a bulbous boot toe. So how do you sand soft rubber I hear you cry? I put my boot in the freezer (bare with it, I got that advice from a rubber forum, oh and not the type that Rob is no doubt thinking about!!!!!). This hardens the rubber enough to Dremel it away. It will ultimately give you the smooth toe look of the originals. I've gone one further and removed all the seams that could also show through once you cover in vinyl. I'll throw up a picture or two to show what I mean later today as I'm away from home. These boots will look awesome once you're done as its a much closer base boot to the original than the builders boots we're all used to using right now. Good luck completing them and I can't wait to see how they turn out.
Guest Mikhailov
Nice! I might have to snag a pair of those. I have enough vinyl left over from my initial boots to do another pair and want to try a more accurate base boot. May I ask what the cost was? Heel carving came out very nice as well! I got them for about $60 on Amazon, here's the link: http://www.amazon.co...palladium+boots. Thanks for all the feedback guys! The boots are going to have wait until my girlfriend gets a new sewing machine to do the vinyl with. Thanks for the tips on the rubber toe, Andy; I will definitely be putting it to good use. I have a question though, what am I going to do about the front of the boot? I don't want to leave it plain, but doing the horizontal stripe down the middle might just be too tedious for me. Mayhaps I should just make vertical cuts on the front and forget the horizontal? Would that be okay for lancer clearance? Edit: the color I ordered was espresso/putty. 4505Marcel
I personally don't bother with the horizontal stripe in the front. It's more noticeable on the heel, but not needed around the front for lancer
