My 1st build

Recommended Posts

I actually used the hole provided in the tank topper. After much self debate. I couldn't find a reference pic at a good enough angle to determine whether it is centered or not on the screen used. If I remember correctly, I measured the hole at was off centered by no more than 1/8 inch. And the mark was not centered either.

on most scout helmets, the black from the snout is partially out on the flat part of the edge and not so much along the inner edge, but you did a much cleaner edge then I did the first time

That was something I had to go back and add for approval myself. Luckily I was in constant contact with my gml and he walked me through my build so I wouldn't have to do touch ups after submitting my pics.

You may wanna double check just in case and save yourself time and aggravation. But build is looking great! Its these wips that give you the advice you may need. Love seeing new builds, keep the pics coming!

Looking good! I don't think it would hurt to take in the legs a bit.

I took in the legs (and arms) on my redkap. I also added stirrups to help keep the legs from poofing up over the knee armor.

Only thing that jumps out to me would be to level out your thigh boxes, but that's one of those things that'll need to be tweaked every time you suit up. Nice job, brother!

Thanks for the tip with the stirrups, Stasz. I'm going to attach that to my jumpsuit.

You bet! I would recommend sizing the stirrups standing AND while crouched or kneeling, and choose a measurement in between. I first measured mine just standing, and when I knelt down they pulled so tight one ripped off :)

I agree that the legs look a bit baggy and bunched at the knees. Make sure you have full range of movement i.e. crouching, when making any adjustments. I'd do a loose stitch (easy to rip out) try on again, pose like a boss, then if satisfied, final stitching/surging. I've been too pedal happy before!

In the 501st costume reference library, it says to use cotton fabric. I see in the how-to, that you used beaver nylon. Is that aproved? And why did you use it. Is the beaver nylon more tough and durable?
