Flight suit zipper problem

Gato

Recommended Posts

I have a CB flightsuit and the zipper is not zipping up anymore. It is moving up and down fine, it is just not attaching. Ive only had it for about six months now and wondering if it can be fixed?

Would I need to have someone put a new zipper on it?

Maybe I can just get a Red Kap and use this one for the suede patches, elastic, and collar.

What do you guys think my best course of action is?

What exactly do you mean by 'not attaching'?

I'm assuming the zip is joined properly at the bottom and it runs up and down, interlocking/unlocking the teeth properly as it should and the little latch on the zip head itself that's at fault and just not locking it in place?

If so, I think it might be possible to rethread a new zip-head onto the zip. It will need undoing at the bottom, and when the new one is in place, it will need sewing back together.

failing that, why worry about a zip, just whack some poppers in there or some velcro. It'll all be hidden under your flak vest and bund anyway.

Typically this is a bad zipper pull, not the teeth. Examine to see of any teeth are busted. If no, have a seamstress replace with a heavy duty pull.

I would not recommend having the whole zipper replaced. I've seen this go horribly wrong too often. There should be no need.

It is hidden under all the gear, but it is just bothering me, so I want to fix it. It happened at my last troop, but I dont know exactly how or why it failed to lock the threads in place. I had to fix up my armor yesterday with some velcro on the biceps to keep them from falling and noticed the zipper problem again. Im gonna try playing around with it, before taking it to the seamstress for the industrial zipper. Thanks for the suggestions.
