Durkness
I always try to do a lot of research before I start a project, TB boots were no different. I wanted to post my current work in progress as well as my cost break down so others will know if it's a route they want to take. If you choose to build your own boots just know that everything takes practice and time.....This was my first attempt and I know if I do it again, they will be better. The amazing pinned boot tutorial is what I used for mine. - http://forum.bikersc...findpost&p=7240 Here is what I had to purchase plus most of the prices - Boots 10 1/2 - Kmart - I did use the wheat Rustler's Kmax which I had to order online. They actually had really good reviews. $26.66, tax and shipping included White marine grade vinyl - JoAnn's - I want to say this was $12.47/yard. They always have a coupon and this month was 50% off. I also picked up some off white thread. $7 Goop Shoe Glue - Wal-Mart - $4.41 Rivet gun - Harbor Freight - $4.99 and then 20% coupon. $5 Velcro - Wal-Mart - White 2" sewing velcro $5.47 Total - $48.54 I had some disposable brushes, a sewing machine, heat gun, thumb tacks, and scissors already so those didn't go into the cost. The first picture shows how much of one yard of vinyl will get you minus the trim and bones. The second photo is how they both currently sit. I just have to cut out the bone, glue, and I'm satisfied with that. I may cut the grooves out of the boot at a later time but I am happy with how they have turned out so far. Hope it helps with anyone in the States that may want to tackle them. Makes me want to cover up all my old boots with vinyl now. That boot tutorial is awesome! Chef
Looking tippedy top there. Personally, when making mine I don't put in the rivet, as it's damned uncomfortable to wear (I have heard of people's feet bleeding where it's rubbed). Adding loads of E6000 in this area does the job perfectly well. Don't forget to cut the notches in the boot soles... If you've gone this far, why stop now! Keep 'em coming and well done.
4505Marcel
The rivet is ok, if you do it from the inside. I noticed they rubbed my feet when riveted from the outside, so soon turned them around
Durkness
Never thought about the rivet inside. It is low enough that I didn't feel it when I first test fit it but if I put some insoles in there it will cover them up completely. But the bone has been added. The velcro on the back wasn't aligned when I took the pic.... As for the notches, I've never had anyone take a picture of my back let alone the back of my shoes. I received my KS kit helmet kit last week so that is my next project to start. I have 5 other costumes I am working on (not Star Wars related) so I it will be in the mix with all of those.
