bugdozer
OK, obviously I need every component of the costume in order to become a Biker Scout. But also, there are gonna be some components I need to get before others - for example in order to trim armour to a proper fit for me I will have to have the flight suit under it already. At the moment I have no costume at all. Can anyone offer any advice on what parts I really need to obtain first? Also, if there is some piece that's incredibly difficult to obtain then maybe I should aim for that first, to avoid a situation where I have the costume 95% completed and then get stuck? 4505Marcel
At the moment probably gloves are harder to get, the rest of the scout is fairly easy to obtain. I'd say have all your soft parts and then armour, but really there isn't much in the way of fitting armour, just elastic sizing and trimming. It's a fairly straight forward costume to build
Chex
Depends on what armor you order. SC is quick. MC is not. If you haven't joined up on your local garrison's message boards, please do so. That would be a great start as well. Most people start off with armor, then gloves, then source the soft parts, but everyone is different. Soft parts are usually a good start though as you really need those before you can size the belt and strapping.
bugdozer
Thanks for the tips. I have sent a registration for the UK Garrison forum now.
Chef
It largely doesn't matter. There are a few bits that need to marry up together, but it's a bit 'chicken and egg' because it's things like the chest armour/ bund and pouches / belt area that need to be sized together. It's not an exact science. You don't need the soft parts to be able to make your armour, and you don't need the armour to make the soft parts. It's just there is a bit of jiggling about when it comes to putting them all together.
bugdozer
Well, I just ordered the first part of the costume - the gloves. I figured if I am intending to join Vader's Fist... start with the fists!
Bubonos
For me soft parts were the hardest. Luckily a friend from my local rebel legion made my vest and cummerbund. As.said before sc is a great kit. I troop in the full set. Idk your size but bigger guys complain about the bucket. I personally love it but im of average build. Gloves, easy! I got mine from wampawear.com and love them! I say get the suit while you're there though I got the one linked from 501.com. Boots easy and fun build as well. Baklava, amazon. When you get your kit, dive right in! Boots are a good start though I found. When you get started make a wip and you will get plenty of help from people here. Plus i love to see the progress of a new build
bugdozer
Reassuring to know you got them from the same place I did! Marcel has told me he makes some components and I've seen recommendations from other members of gear he's made, so I want to talk to him about some bits and bobs. I am 5'10" in height and fairly slim, and my head isn't big at all, so I reckon even the smaller varieties of helmet would do me.
TreeDodger72
I started with the flight suit and also ordered an SC helmet (which I am glad to say I have completed!). I worked on the helmet and the flight suit simultaneously and ordered the vest, cummerbund, and pouches from CB while I am finishing the modifications on the flight suit. After that I will order the armor and begin fitting it. Lastly, I will get the boots. Oh, I already have my gloves. I have Wampa gloves and they are awesome, great fit and very comfortable! Good luck!

bugdozer
local a mic and aker. I don't know what this means
marktoots
I think Sylverbard meant "locate a mic and aker". You'll need a voice amp for talking to the kids etc when trooping. Aker is one of the makes of voice amps that are on the market and will require a microphone. You can get amps that provide static burst etc but for a scout you don't need it :-)

Cheshire
I'd also suggest if you've never worked with this kind of materials and stuff before then the small armor bits are a great place to start. I was unfamiliar with any of it so sanding down sharp corners helped me become more comfortable with knowing what the materials could handle, how they'd hold up or bend etc. How much E-6000 to use! So little things first, my two cents.
Bubonos
Like.Cheshire I was completely green when i started as well. I opened that big brown box and was like um. Sc gives ok directions but you may find that you will need to glance at the crl and look at other links online. Its really self explanatory though. As for as plastic, I started with the bucket. Really it was the last thing I finished as well. I had some issues so don't forget the black border around the snout. I painted it on with testors model paint. I have problems posting pics from tattalk but look Jeremy Bubonos Beech on fb and ill send you pics for reference if you want.
