V8orBUST
Hello i have a redkap undersuit and need to figure out what pockets to remove. anyone with this brand coveralls know?
Ketchup
For Lancer, all of them. Every single last one. (Although, I suppose you could leave the breast pockets on, but I went ahead and pulled them off, anyway.) There are a couple of pockets on the leg that will require you to rip the seam of the leg open to get them all the way off. For standard clearance, I'm not sure if you have to...
V8orBUST
thanks!
Dart
For standard clearance, I'd remove all visible pockets. It can be a bit tedious but it's not hard if you've got a stitch ripper. If not, go buy one or you're gonna be poking yourself with the pointy end of an x-acto knife.
Ketchup
Yeah, I had to rip the side leg pockets off of my friend's Dickies pants to ensure we had enough room for the crotch patch. I second the seam ripper...although I end up poking my fingers with that, plenty. XD
khazara
The RedKap suit has side pockets - do these end to be removed as well? If so then I guess they have to be sewn shut, along with the other side "vents"? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
TreeDodger72
I was also wondering if the side pockets and vents need to be closed. Does the small leg pocket definitely need to be removed as well? Any help is appreciated.
Chunk
Here ya go Peeps! I've made several RedKap conversion suits for Basic & Lancer approved here on the BSN. Here's a checklist on all pockets to be removed or modded. REMOVED- Chest, Hip, & Theigh "Utility" SEW CLOSED- Open Slash & Front Slash For the Theigh Utility the pant leg will need to be opened up with a seam ripper. Remove the utility pocket & resew the pant leg. * For the front Slash pockets(not the open through) if you choose you can leave these open to store your keys, phonce ect. When the costume is worn the belt will keep it closed. It's up to the individual wearer as I have made both ways depending on the customers wish.
TreeDodger72
Thanks, Joe! Just what I needed to know!
khazara
I successfully completed the pockets tonight. Took a couple hours. Man, RedKap really reinforces those pockets with some tight stitching in the corners! That was the toughest part, trying to do it carefully without ripping the material. Bubonos
Standard clearance is what I have and kept my vents and side pockets. I took back and leg pockets off. Left the chest pockets because armor and he's cover them just as cummerbund covers bents and sides. In fact I use my pouches for MIC amp, money I may need at an event, phone and various fellow troopers put their stuff in my pouches. Lucky for me I left chest pockets because my amp is just small enough to fit and easier to hide the mic cord. Only problem there is i sometimes get feedback.
TK-326
Ordered RedKap coveralls and bought the real suede leather to upgrade my undersuit. Have been using an actual black flight suit for many years. Going for Lancer now, so had to upgrade. This thread has been helpful for my wife to understand what needs to be modded on the RedKap. BobaFiend
Those bar tacks can be a real pain in the butt! Be careful not to rip through to the fabric underneath.
stasz
Yep. Gashed the front of my suit taking a breast pocket off. Luckily it's covered. Go slow with the ripper. Don't force it
