V8orBUST
I really like the look of the raw ABS and do not want to paint a white helmet white. Is painting a highly recommended thing? or do a lot of people leave the armor raw?
Chex
Most people with KS helmets leave it unpainted. Totally up to you. All other helmets that require more intense assembly need to be painted.
V8orBUST
Well I have an SC helmet. Anyone with one, what did y'all do?
01Hawk
I have an SC and did not paint it. The only reason I could see painting it would be if you filled the seam around the top and back piece. I was going to fill mine but didn't bother. Colorwise the white it is molded in looks fine. Darth Voorhees
Yea its purely a choice thing. Some people like the painted look (the screen used were painted) others like the crisp clean ABS look. Painted will naturally weather itself easier as well, where ABS will lend itself to staying clean, and is easier to keep clean The TK's in the films were painted, but most TKs like the polished ABS look over painting. All that said, like Chex and 01Hawk said, the only reason you would NEED to paint the KS or SC helmet is to fill that seam along the top....or if the ABS pieces differ in color. (my old KS was like that..it was 3 different shades of white!) I painted mine because it had to be assembled in halves so it needed to be filled and sanded. V8orBUST
Ok thanks. I decided to leave it unpainted so I don't have to deal with chips and cracks as the helmet is used.
NegativeEleven
I had to paint my KS because they sent 2 very different whites. The face and visor were a cooler almost blue-ish white. It was obvious even in pictures. Now, 2 years later, I think I need to weather my armor because paint picks up dirt more than bare ABS, so my helmet looks very different from my armor.
