Whereswa11y Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Hi I've started working my way through the forums and have decided to buy either a ks or sc helmet and assemble it myself. I haven't done anything like this before. How hard is it to do? Do the come with good, clear instructions? Any advice?
Chex Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 The KS comes with no instructions, actually, but it's not that hard of a build. I've built 4 and have 2 more I need to build for others. 1
01Hawk Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Since you mention SC - it does come with instructions but there are some issues with them. I used various build threads here to get it together. General assembly isn't hard at all but it does require some trial and error and patience to get all the pieces to line up correctly etc but that is part of the fun of the whole hobby 1
Whereswa11y Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 Thanks guys. I think I'll give it a go. I'm just going to double check prices and postage (to Perth, Western Australia) and put in an order. Ive tried to find an online tutorial but haven't had any luck. Have either of you come across one?
RCMUSTANG Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Just be mindful that the SC is much smaller than a KS. 1
Dart Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 The KS helmet is a bit tricky, but moreso in that you really need to be mindful of where you cut and how much you cut off. Work little by little and take your time, a heatgun will help with the curavature, but it can be done. If you decide to go with the KS, don't use glue. If you can find some indoor/outdoor double-sided foam tape, that'll make assembly (and your life) much easier. I stuck mine together like that and it's been abused for 4 years, never popped apart. 2
Whereswa11y Posted November 19, 2014 Author Posted November 19, 2014 Thanks guys. I like the double-sided tape idea. Is it hard to take off if it gets placed in the wrong spot, ie is there a special solvent/substance to use that doesn't damage the ABS, eg eucalyptus oil?

Nope, the tape will peel off, so long as you do it soon after sticking. I use the stuff from 3M. Just tape the thing together first, mark some lines on the inside and then stick it all together. 1
Spycee Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 I'm using E6000 glue. 24h to dry, it's a bit long but after you can detach the pieces without damage, and the glue peels off with a finger rub, with absolutely no damage to the ABS. 1
