Guest Maddog8400
I've been looking around for a flight suit/coverall and been having a problem finding something that doesn't have pockets. The only thing close that I can find is the Tru-spec 27-P or Rothco's. Any suggestions?
Chunk
You want to buy a Redkap CT-10, work coverall & remove all the pockets. Very easy to convert in to a basic or Lancer Spec riding suit. Just use a seam ripper & it will take you about an hour to remove all the pockets. http://www.automotiveworkwear.com/RedKap/CT10/coveralls.html

BikerScout007
Not to mention that the Redkap has the all-important double zipper feature!
Wedge_B5
Wampawear has a good flightsuit but has pockets
Wickedreamz
Buying a WW suit would be a waste of $100 since you have to remove the pockets and would still have to add the suede parts. The redcap option for $28.50 can not be beat despite some of the required work.
Wedge_B5
unfortunately... International Orders - None. We are NO longer accepting orders for shipping outside the U.S.A. Guest Chip-hazard
Besides removing pockets is there any other modifications required?
stasz
Besides removing pockets is there any other modifications required? Adding the collar flap, suede thigh patches, suede mudflap, and the thigh elastic bands. The required components are listed in the CRL, and there's several build threads and tutorials in the Soft Armor forum that will show you exactly what needs to be done

TR-10574
I bought a WW because I am short and fat (5'7 230) with a long torso and it was easy to hem the inseam so the suit fit better and was not too baggy.
CFLStarWarsDad
are there any builds that show applying screen accurate camo to a solid color suit such as the one suggested? I would think the charcoal color selection would be the best starting base color for whats represented in the film. Nicholas
Grim
Is this the gold standard for the scout trooper costume? The redkap?
BikerScout007
Is this the gold standard for the scout trooper costume? The redkap? Its the most common one we use. Unless someone can find a better option. The Redkap has a lot going for it -- cheap, easily obtained, variety of sizes, double zipper, easily modded and very few things to remove. The biggest mark against it is that it is HOT. But if we could track down a black racing suit that was cool, didn't have a million pockets and zippers to remove and was affordable, I'm sure we'd all jump on it.
Griffin-X
When I joined up in 2011 most scouts were using a Speedway racing suit. It's nice but sort of pricey and had the usual pockets, cuff, and other problems. But it had a mandarin collar. I think it went for like $80 U.S. Then, you mod the heck out of it. I chose a Redkap in 2011 and never looked back.
stasz
I wanted to get the Speedway suit initially, but back last year all they had available was a 2X and the last few times I've checked it's been only 2X and listed in their Garage Sale section which makes me wonder if it's been discontinued (though I haven't checked recently). ...so I opted for Redkap, and learned me how to sew Like Mickey, I wouldn't necessarily say Gold Standard, but Go-To. It's a perfectly viable option, easily modded by even a ham-fisted novice like me.

Seriously. What's with the pockets and zippers? What are these motorcycle guys carrying with them? 186 packs of gum and a money clip?
PScott
Seriously. What's with the pockets and zippers? What are these motorcycle guys carrying with them? 186 packs of gum and a money clip? The Aerostich suit I wear when commuting has seven pockets, for license, registration, insurance, gas money, Camelbak water bladder, & house key. Have to deal with Murphy's Law occasionally. I can't image that any undersuit is cool. Unless you're wearing one of those coolshirts that are used for racing. Then we add the vest and armor on top of that and a bucket. Be interesting how a scout looks under a IR camera . I just tried my undersuit (RedKap) on last night to check the fit and begin working on it and the first thing my wife said was "that looks hot" so I used the standard Pathfinder response "Why yes...yes it is".
NinjaScout
I see what needs to be done for the riding area and the mudflap. Is there a good example of what needs to be done to the collar of the RedKap? I am not sure I have a solid understanding of what is needed there. stasz
Here's a link to my WIP thread. On the first page there's a little description of how I did the collar: http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=13066 And here's a pic of the modified collar on my suit using one of the removed back pockets to create the neck flap:

It has the same pattern as their flightsuit minus the pockets. You can just need to add the riding patches and mud flap and you are ready to go for Lancer.
