About suede rideing patch

I understand the standards set for the suede patches, I had an idea since the rideing patch is set where it is with the elastic bands on the thighs, can't I just make a rideing patch set like chaps? Like a suede piece attached to a quality elastic setup to be put on instead of sewing them on? What do you all think?

I don't think that will work. There's no way it would stay snug enough to the pants. There's photos where we can see the patch is sewn, best to do it that way.

Yeah I intend to sew on my patches the original accepted way, but how about a piece of Velcro aswell it would keep it from bunching up and it would stay in place! Just saying because sometime we will/i will have to wash my flight suit in the Future and well water +sued = doesn't work well and or future fixes due to trooping lol I guess I was just wondering about other options I have and would they be accepted? I do believe it would of have given the "rideing" patch more of a realistic feel like an extra piece to add to the uniform kinda like chaps. I just don't like the idea of the elastic bands sewn to the thighs! It's like what does it do? Lol but yeah I totally understand

I think your trying to over engineer it mate, washing suede makes it look better if you ask me

Just hand wash the black suit, hang to dry. Works fine and adds some "used future" look to it.

I only sewed the elastic to the suede patches and on the seam on the side. It's not hard to do and looks good.

I've heard that faux suede (fake suede) is easy to wash. Haven't tried it, just what I've heard. It's also easier to sew on than real suede (unless you're going for Lancer, then you'll need the real stuff).

I actually find Faux suede harder to sew than real suede, as it's too thin and slippy. With the suede get the thinnest pig suede you can find and it's easy to sew

I picked up this "suede cloth" from Joann's. Haven't touched a thing yet just brainstorming at the moment! Plus I need to go check out the jumpsuit for a fitting I'm thinking on going with a dickies full jumpsuit "modded" of course, I think they would look good and well I have a blue one but remember it was way to baggy other than that I would of dyed it black lol! The place I'm going to has every color even pink! So that should be a winner! And also I do have possible soft parts fabric on my work table I'm gonna use a nice thick canvas fabric it was from a huge mail bag or laundry bag I got the perfect lengths and batting to start. The bag I had for awhile and was going to make a straight jacket lol but seen the fabric is needed somewhere more important.

You're in San Diego... you sure you want to go with thick canvas? It's gonna be hot. You talking about for the vest or cummerbund? I used t-shirt material for chest/back of vest (one layer) and twill for the sleeves (two layers, padded). My bund is flag nylon on the outside and cotton on the inside. I used padding for the first one I made, but a thin canvas inside for the second one because I was having problems with the padding bunching up after washing the first.

 

I know you said you're ordering a new one, but for anyone thinking about trying it, dying coveralls is tough. They're synthetic material and don't take dye very easily.
