In anticipation of Chef's laser-cut clips, I turned my attention to the placement of the thigh box straps, and how they attach to the rear of the costume. I think most people use snaps or Velcro, and attach them to the main belt, but I wanted to attach mine to the TD itself: So I designed a plate that attaches to the back side of the TD, held in place with zip ties that go around the tube, and slits for the thigh box straps (the fabric is folded and stapled behind the slit so that the straps don't come through. The next step is to add a small belt clip the center of the plate, but mounted from the bottom. I figure that once the laser-cut clips are attached, an extra clip mounted the opposite direction will add stability to the TD assembly as a whole. batninja Posted July 21, 2014 Author Share Posted July 21, 2014 The clips that Chef is working on will hang the entire assembly onto the main belt, like this: I'm just going to add a single clip to the middle of the plate, but in the opposite direction. I haven't screwed it onto the plate yet, but here's what it would look like. batninja Posted July 24, 2014 Author Share Posted July 24, 2014 REDESIGN! I’ve decided to update the original plate design. I found a great belt clip at Tandy Leather (Rivet-On Spring Clip, part # 1237-24), and redid the mount plate to accommodate this clip. I’ve also changed my mind on the positioning of the clip, and mounted it right-side up. Below is the template, if you’d like to make your own. I used Evergreen .060†plastic sheeting for the base. You’ll notice that the mounting area for the clip is not centered top to bottom; this is so that when the 2†white webbing belt is pulled into the clip, it runs dead center along the plate at the back of the TD, keeping the entire assembly centered on the belt. The dimensions of this plate are for the SC thermal detonator housing. If you have an MC housing, the template would need to be scaled down to fit that piece. When attaching the thigh box straps, simply run a bit of the strapping through the slit, fold it over on the backside, and staple it so that the strapping doesn’t slide back through the slit when pulled.
