Oberkisstillalive Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 I was wondering if someone could tell me wether cucblack's helmet is bigger or the same size as the original screen used helmet. I saw a picture of someone wearing it and it looked HUGE and I wasn't sure whether the person in the picture was just small or whether it is just a lot bigger. Sorry this is kind of a stupid question.
Donovan Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Its bigger than the other fan mades, its close too original size but I think its bigger
Stroker Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I think it's about the same size as the screen used one. I have a CB I've compared it to KS and a MC it's about the same size as the KS. However I'll let one of the old pros chime in.
Chunk Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Its larger than most fan made. I have a "topic" here comparing the CB to a KS & DP. Pics from all sides
TB-7076 Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Haven't seen the latest pics butHaven'ttnversion I've seen looked a bit srange regarding shapes in general. A lot of people are happy about it though. Depending on your expectations you can only compare Pictures of the latest version and the original and decide by your own judgement and taste. It is about the same size as the original +/-.
cucblack Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 All are speculations. The true is comparing it side to side. I made my helmet and my other props scaled in a 185 cm high. Thinking in the US and European people usually are big. And in my big melon too. When I tried to wear my Don Post, was impossible in any way. and I decided make my own size. Long long time ago... 1
Ewok Hunter Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I might have to look into CB's helmet then. My hat size is 7 7/8, and this has become a worry for me, ordering a helmet and then finding out it won't fit over my dome. 2
batninja Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I can put on my CB helmet without lifting the visor. I was not able to to that with my KS. Here is a comparison shot of the KS (left) and the CB: Personally, I like the larger size. I'm 6ft, 250 lbs (trying to get down to 220), and I think it will work perfectly for my frame. 2
01Hawk Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I like that the CB helmet looks more proportioned ... It looks more narrow and less flared out side to side along with a decent height. 1
batninja Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 That's what I like about it, too. The top of the visor is arched a bit more than the other mass-produced fan offerings, and doesn't have the 'squared' corner look of the MLC. The CB has a longer look to it as well, a bit closer to the original helmet. My only minor complaint is the size of the ear holes. They're a bit larger than I'd like. But it's a small compromise compared to the overall look of the helmet. In retrospect, and certainly evident in that picture, the KS version looks short and squatty to me. 1
Donovan Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 The ear holes and lens area throw me off. Idk there's something about it that throws me off l
Chef Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I've been doing a bit of measuring, and I'll say this first... This is by no means definitive. I've been working from a picture of a screen used bucket (courtesy of StarwarsHelmets), and with everything in pictures, it's difficult to translate 2D into 3D, so some of these measurements may well be off a touch. Perspective and all that being a factor. But taking a known length (snout greeblie), I have calculated (via the measure function on PhotoShop) that the total height of the Screen Used lid to be approximately 255mm The height of the grey area of the snout to be 100mm (maybe a touch less) I'm sure Gino could confirm one way or another. Here is the picture I've been working from. Tried to find one that has the least perspective distortion etc. I'll say again... these measurements may well be wrong. But having scaled the original image to a known size, and using the measure function to ascertain all the others... that's what I've come up with. Based on those measurements, I know which bits of my own lid need to be addressed. I'm 10mm shy in overall height. I'll get around to adjusting it one day... There are a myriad of things that can throw these measurements out. So it's by no means conclusive. I suppose we'll all find out when the EFX one is released.
batninja Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 The ear holes and lens area throw me off. Idk there's something about it that throws me off l What's throwing you off? For reference, here is CB's helmet next the the real deal: 1
Chef Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Christian... Just to see if my scaling is working to any degree. I estimate the height of your grey snout to be 115mm. Is that anywhere near??
Stroker Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I've spent hours comparing my CB with the screen used helmet and I can't figure out what's throwing him off. It's damn close in every detail. I'm sticking with CB. 2
cucblack Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Christian... Just to see if my scaling is working to any degree. I estimate the height of your grey snout to be 115mm. Is that anywhere near?? I don't have a helmet at the moment, some in construction. I'll take the measures. But the measure is too close, great scaled work Rob.
cucblack Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I think there are different sizes in the ear holes and lens visor. Also in some Helmets shapes. Maybe the assembled job, thermoforming process, plastic thick, etc. When I see screen caps sometimes I see different shapes and details. Personally I like big ear holes and lens visor and I used a screen cap for a reference. But I must hear the fellows opinions and I'm making some modifications in the Helmet and one is reduce the ear hole size. Soon I'll post pics with the advance and I hope your opinions and help from you with the modifications. Here a screen caps pics and helmets looks little different. 1

If you also notice the scout in the bottom two pictures on the right has a different shaped lens that is bigger than the rest. no two helmets are exactly the same.
Oberkisstillalive Posted July 16, 2014 Author Posted July 16, 2014 Thank you for your input christian! 1
Dart Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 If you also notice the scout in the bottom two pictures on the right has a different shaped lens that is bigger than the rest. no two helmets are exactly the same. The difference there is that both of those are "stunt" helmets. You can tell because the bottom edge of the visor is flared out much more than the other 4 in the, and we know the visor was cut out a bit more to fit the stuntmen's goggles and increase vision. I wouldn't use those two for any reference regarding the visor or lens size/shape.
Donovan Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I like all the angles of it except the front on view. To me the face plate looks too big. The ear holes I don't mind too much but just the faceplate looks too big in my opinion.
Donovan Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Can I get an image of the helmet at the same angle as the picture of the bottom left scout in batninjas first comparison pic between CBS and screen used?
Donovan Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I also think the faceplate is too short, or the blinder is too long. Co pared to the top two images, the screen used helmet has more face plate sticking out the bottom of the blinder. I think the face plate looks nice, but its too wide and short. And the blinder is too long.
Chef Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 The joy of using a buck and the original construction method is that you will ALWAYS get some variation in the shape of the lid. I get that on mine all the time. It really depends on how things are trimmed, and ultimately how they all sit together. This is quite obvious when you look at the pictures that Christian has supplied above. Some have the shroud pulled in nice and tight, others have a wider flare. Some have a smaller tidier lens, others have a bigger one. I've added a grid to Batninja's graphic as it helps illustrate the bits I'm going to outline. Now we must remember, NO lid will be exactly the same as the originals. Even the EFX, as the further away you go from the original method, the more inconsistencies get added in. So this is no criticism of the CB lid. Purely just some observations. 1: I think the snout is too high, and tilted at a more vertical angle than the screen used one. I know there is some perspective shift on the above image, but it looks like the faceplate is a little tilted forward. 2: The helmet bolts don't look to sit in the right place (too low) and the rake from the helmet bolts to the front of the shroud is at too high an angle 3: Shroud: I think the biggest thing that throws it off is the sides of the shroud. They are long and this causes the eye to be drawn to it. 4: Ears, as said, the ears are a bit on the large side, which has probably contributed to the shroud sides being long as it's followed the same line. As for the overall size, it's difficult to say as BatNinja has scaled the two images to match nicely. but referring to my above post, I'm estimating the overall height of the lid to be approx 255mm. We are talking in Millimetres here, so it's not a BAD lid in the same region of Star Fortress by any stretch of the imagination. So don't see any of the above as a major criticism, these are purely my observations. It's not 'Spot On' as some people seem to think, but then no lid is ever likely to be. 1
