3D Printed Blaster

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

While I wait for my armor to ship, I thought I would get going on my blaster build.Lucky for me I have access to a 3D printer.

This is fresh off the printer, so I still need to do all the cleanup work on it.

That's very cool! What's the weight on something like that?

It is very lightweight. The inside is made up of a honeycomb pattern so it is solid but light. About 3oz.

dare I ask if your sharing the file? :)

Gladly. The model is located here:

It prints great on my makerbot.

Had such great success with the blaster that I thought I would try my hand at some lightsabers. The results were outstanding!

Picked up some Bondo spot putty to see if I can fill in the print lines.

Anyone have any accurate dimensions on the blaster?

I think mine is a little on the small side. I placed it in the holder and it just rolled around.

But when I hold it with the gloves on, it seems about right.

The blaster looks pretty good to me. The size is really, really close. Check out this topic for more details...

That's fantastic.. I'll be hitting up my colleague who has the 3D printer in his classroom.. It never occurred to me to even make costuming bits on that thing.. So rad of you to share the source on the files, too..

So, I got my 3D printed blaster. I was going to use XTC-3D to finish it, but I have a question as this is my first 3D printed piece. Is the matte finish from sanding the XTC-3D sufficient or is there something else that I need to do after that to the blaster? Does it need to be glossy or is the matte finish okay?

Also, what is the best glue/epoxy to make sure the pieces stay together?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

-Juli
