Guest DogTrooper
Could you all give me an opinion on these for a pair of base boots? http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Mens-Work-Boot-Wheat-tan/321279581812?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D22853%26meid%3D6969011243026012472%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D9833%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D331099466801&rt=nc Thanks
Bobik96
I just received a pair of these. Would be nice to hear from the experts. Mine are in progress at this time. The soles are solid rubber and easy to carve with a flat square razor. Since these pics were taken I removed the metal hooks at the top. 01Hawk
I just posted a pic of them as potential base ones ... Nice to see them in progress. Is the dog bone going to cover all the laces?
Bobik96
I think so. That last one will be close. The plain toe area is not as large as other boots but I think the Dogbone will make it work.
Bobik96
Ok the last one may show. I should have changed the laces to thinner ones. The dog bone flap is an exact template from the boot tutorial. His boots are size 10. Mine are size 12. I may try a bigger flap once I get the ankles made.
Guest DogTrooper
Really nice work. I like the carving job. The pictures will really help me out when I go to do mine.
Guest DogTrooper
Well these work for Lancer status once they are done?
Bobik96
Thanks. Lancer? I hope to get there. My entire build is still in progress. The way I understand Lancer boots is the carved heel and overall fit of the boot without too many wrinkles. If they don't make lancer I may go with a different boot later. For $19 I thought they were worth a chance.
Guest DogTrooper
That is good to know. I am heading to Kmart tomorrow and see if they have them.
01Hawk
Looks nice ... Maybe starting the laces one notch higher with thinner laces may be an options too. I may get a pair to try since they are so cheap.
Bobik96
Yeah super cheap price as far as boots go. I hope to get my suit this week then I will finish one of the boots and post a pic.
Guest DogTrooper
Good idea on the laces. Flat dress shoe laces have a really low profile that should do the trick. I am working on the cummerbund and vest right now I need to take some pictures.
Bobik96
I would probably avoid these boots if you have other options. I'm not completely satisfied with how mine turned out.
AtomicW
Really appreciate the detailed pics. Any particular reason why you didn't like the finished product? For anyone interested: I was having trouble finding the exact boots (Rustler Men's Work Boot Kmax - Wheat) on ebay and managed to hunt it up at kmart. Dart
These really aren't the best type of boot, in that the shape is kinda hard to work with. Ideally, you want a boot that's flatter on the top of the foot, with the laces farther back from the toes. Also, you don't really need laces for the bottom part. You can always just stitch the eyelets together where it's comfy for your foot. The thing you want to avoid when you're building your own boots is to have a HUGE barrel. Even if you taper it at the top to fit your leg, it just looks weird. Ideally, you wanna have the barrel of the boot pretty straight and fitting over the boot just in front of your ankle.
