Hey!! So tonight I made my first-ever attempt at sewing my own cummerbund...I figured before I sew on the velcro and straps that I'd ask for feedback as to whether or not this is acceptable or if it looks good! Let me know! Thanks!!

A couple of things....there is no seam edging around it, the arch is too high in the crotch piece....There are 5 panels not six ...there used to be six:)

Sorry if the wording is wrong ...its late here and the mind is gone so I asked my youngest what do I call that. so blame her.

In saying all that it looks very neat :)

It's hard to tell, but have you done a big X on the velcro closure in the back? The pattern commonly used has that, but it should not be there (and you don't need it). The smaller X in the bottom will be covered by the belt, so that's ok.

Otherwise, what Terry says, a bit of foam in the cod is always good, and it could go a (teeeeny) bit higher up.

I put the "X" onto the velcro area because the template I have printed out had it on there... I am assuming that the craft foam needs to be sewn on the inside of the cod piece, but what thickness of foam is recommended to be used?

Okay. I am having some difficulties with the riding patch and how to go about getting the right shape, etc. Can someone please help?!

It's difficult to describe in words.... but I'll have a go.

I've even done some diagrams.

Lay your flight suit on a flat surface and arrange it so the seams of the inner leg area are flat.

It'll be something like this...

Then trace a pattern across the inner leg seam, and up the fly area. The inner leg seam should go down to about 3/4 of the way between your crotch and your knee. The patch then curves out from the inner seam to pretty much the front of your leg (imagine a seam down the fronts). It then extends upwards.

This will give you 4 patches, which you then need to sew into your suit.

Hope this helps.

That actually makes more sense than what I was attempting yesterday...This also makes it seem less complicated, which I seem to be good at doing!! Haha. I will give it another go tonight when I get home; hopefully it goes better than the luck I was having yesterday. Thank you so much.

OKay, before I sew this sucker down (I know I have the elastic to place on it too)... This top picture, I can see that I need to flatten out the top of the riding patch... But are there any other suggestions?

AND HERE IS THE VEST (sorry, the picture is blurry)

If you look at the outline on this picture here, you can see that the patch comes out to pretty much the front of the leg (same on the back). It's bigger than you think.

The patch is looking fine Amanda, although those pins look mighty nasty.

I think that riding patch will work. You are pretty brave sliding your legs into that suit with so many pins there... I got nervous just looking at it.

Your vest sleeves might be a little long. I know my application got sent back twice because my GML only wanted to see 1/2 inch of vest sleeve beyond the shoulder bell. I had someone make the vest for me, but I ended up having to take the sleeves off, push them further up in side the torso, and sew em back down 2-3 times before I found the right spot.

It made me nervous putting it on with so many pins in it too.... Needless to say I had to stand completely still because if I shifted in any way, I got stabbed... So here it is after I actually sewed the riding patch on.... Again I apologize for the blurriness (my other half is great at that ... lol). Anywho. Suggestions/comments? I'm concerned that the elastic straps are too loose so I'll probably be tightening them up later, if I need to..

Looking good. If you wanna go for Lancer, the pouches should be sewn so that you don't see the stitching (the flap), but no one but other scouts know that.

What do you have inside of them to keep that shape? I made a box from styrene for mine, so that they can still hold stuff, but a hollow stryene box makes an echoing noise when your keys bounce around in there! I put styrene in the flap too, to hold that shape.
