which is most accurate?

Recommended Posts

Okay, been lurking this forum for a short while and reading the forum everyday trying to soak up some knowledge.....

I have tried to contact MC but their emails are slow as syrup at best but I did get a price list for their biker scout lid and it was about $500.....a bit too much for me and as I understand it they take months on end to fill an order and I dont want to wait months on end

LW replied to my email once and said he was doing a run in January but never got any more responses from him on price and the rest of the details.......

I found CB and I really like his FG helmet but a few details concern me as far as visually movie accurate after looking at the "real" helmets on star wars helmets...

I also found NI and his looks more visually accurate but I havent heard anything good or bad about his product/reputation.....

I've found SC but it seems his helmet is in kit form and I really dont have the tools and space available to me to put a kit together,

So now my question;

Which of these would you experts recommend I buy from, I require a completed helmet ready for display

I understand if you'd rather not voice a preference publicly so if you'd like to send me a PM thats okay too, I just need some guidance.

Thanks

I agree LW is the closest when it comes to accuracy and assembly as of the moment, but its really hard to get one. I myself is also waiting for LW to sell me one ;). Anyway I think MLC v3 is also great you can get this finish from MC or MLC directly.

I assume MC is MonCal? I cant get any decent communication from him, and at $500 it's just too much for me....

Who is MCL?

I own a Cucblack and the shape is much better than the other two fiberglass helmets MLC and NewImage58. Many prefer this helmet in line behind Lonewolf. It could be made movie accurate by replacing the bolts and removing ear mesh!

LW is by far the most accurate out there.

Anything else does just have their own foibles and minor inaccuracies.

MLC is made by Mardon, and is sort of distributed through MonCal (I think), it gets very confusing. MC doesn't make the lids himself.

I could sit down for a day and point out all the various inaccuracies with all the various different helmets, but we'd be here forever.

There are a number of different lids out there.

MLC, SC, KS, CUC, NI, LW, Ch and dare I say it Star Fortress.

It's easier to say AVOID the Star Fortress one like a dose of the pox.

Just be wary if ordering the KS one too, as his recent pulls haven't been all that good and I think his bucks need some renovation.

I have owned a KS, SC, MLC, and a Chef helmet. I would like to check out and/or own a LW and a CB lid. Until I see one, I can't really comment. I know the LW pull and design is really, really close to the original. :salute:

Right now, I wear the MLC for my classic scout and my Chef lid for my shadow scout. The MLC is an awesome helmet and is almost like a piece of art. But, not super accurate even with the mods I have completed. My favorite lid by far is my Chef helmet. And, I agree with Chef's comment about the helmets too. But, don't let him fool you! His helmet is awesome and the new helmets he's pulling are even better and more accurate IMHO. :duim:

Okay, my two (small) issues with the cucblack is the size of the hump around from ear to ear, to my eye it seems too round and too pronounced and not as oblong as the screen used ones and the shape of the "cut" for the visor joint is also off to me. these are minor tho. The newimage58 seems more screen accurate in those respects. Ive read too many poor reviews about the KS helmet and it looks too "short" to my eyes but i could be completely wrong. the moncal is nice but too expensive for me as i said in my first post and its too hard to get any replies. The LW seems to b the holy grail but he wont resond to emails or pms and im guessing that his is more expensive then the MonCal. CB offers to put one together for me finished but that pushes the price up more then the cucblack and Newimage58

Ive not heard of this Cheif helmet, where would i find those?

Ive read about star fortress and they arent even on my list

What is NI?

Thanks for the replies

Moncal does not make a lid, but I believe he can sell you a MLC helmet. Or you can work with Mardon (MLC creator) directly. That's what I did and I love it.

SF = don't waste your time, it's crap.

NI = Newimage; looks okay but do not know anything about it.

Chef = see the guy who posted above, named Chef! ;)

I didnt realize at the time Chief was the poster, I re read the posts and did a face palm, I have sent him a PM thanks!

It probably is a MCL helmet but still, $500 is too high for me. How would I contact Mardon directly?

Sorry for all the stupid questions.

I did quite a bit of research before I finally made my decisions for armor and helmet.

For the armor, it came down to the return or 'lip' of the major pieces. There isn't one on the SC, but there is on MC. Plus, I sold MC my Fett costume a few years ago (it's the one featured on his site), so I have a 'history' with him, so to speak. :) I think I like the size of the SC thigh boxes. Who knows, if the plastic color matches, I may mix and match a few pieces between the two makers.

Regarding the helmet, LW was always my first choice, but I never heard back from my last PM. I bought the KS kit, but it's more trouble than it's worth, imho. I even have a couple of threads regarding its...quality. I like the shape of the SC, but heard it is a teeny bit smaller than the KS, and I wanted a larger bucket. I like the fiberglass construction of the MLC, but I always thought the blinder/visor top was too squared off, it needs to be more rounded. Which brings me to the CB: I bought it. The ear holes seem a little too large, and the visor eyelids may droop a little low, but proportionally, I think I'll be happy with the final product. And it's fiberglass. And since it is shipped in a gel-coat condition, I can color-match the paint to the same shade of the armor (will probably take it to an auto body shop for professional job).

I've just seen the NI version on their website. I'd like to see more direct, head-on pictures to compare it to others, but it looks nice. A little pricier than the CB.

Both my MC armor and my CB helmet are due in the mail next week, and I'm sure I'll post a few (thousand) pics.

BatNinja I have seen your posts on the KS and that was the major factor that pushed me away from them, and the shape seems a little off in terms of height of the helmet compared to the original props. LW never returned my PMs either except my very first PM when he said he was possibly doing a run in Jan, but that was it.

Griffin-X, thanks for that, email sent....

I have a KS helmet right now that just needs paint and finishing. I'm considering CB for my Next bucket a we speak (something to buy before the wedding). as for Armor I have SC and love it. But am Considering getting MC armor in the future since he reworked the armor it's more sharper and defined then the SC with comparitave pricing. my 2cents here for your helmet choice.

Measure your head. Contact MLC CB SC an NI. ask for measurements and detailed pics. Check and see if they sell as kit, fully built and/or both. Compare each's prices and think hard. Take some time and figure which you like best and remember each helmet in the movie was made by hand, each with it's own flaws. no helmet made now or then was "Perfect", but just right for the actor or stunt man. be the scout you want to be.

Okay, after looking around and weighing my options of whats available, whats most accurate, who will answer emails and who is actually producing kits and after much guidance, I have decided that the MCL V3 is the best way for me to go.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Yeah dude the MLC is nice. Only thing that stopped me from getting it was the weight...lol. I went with the KS since it is LIGHT AS HECK, and just modded it so it looks real nice like. I would like to get a Lonewolf like the rest of the Pathfinder community haha but that day still has not come. Anyways, get what you think is going to be the most practical for you. Keep weight in mind if you plan to do alot of long troops, if not go MLC all the way. For me modding the KS was no problem since my first bucket was a PoS Rubies bucket that required a TON of mods. Mhm.

My helmet will be proudly on display in a Detolf cabinet, so I wont be "trooping" in it, maybe someday down the road I might get a full costume and join the 501st but for now I am just a collector, I already have a few stormtrooper helmets and this year I'm adding a Snowie and Biker Scout to the collection.
